I just picked up four animal's I had mounted. I picked up 2 Whitetail, one Ram and a Turkey. The Turkey really still has an odor. I realize this will go away in a while but for now it's in the house and smells. What can be done to sweeten the odor, before the turkey and myself get tossed out the door by my wife. It seems she has a sensitive nose.

Put it somewhere outside the immediate range of sensitive noses for a while (6-12 months, maybe). And, don't ever consider hanging a bezoar taken in the rut - they have the most "goaty" odour you can imagine. I'm sure the Missus would not appreciate it

Fortunately it's not the goat that smells it's the Turkey. I guess maybe I'll stick an air cleaner on it's roost behind the tail fan.

What kind of smell is it?? A turkey does not have a "stink" like most other rutting animals. If it is a rotting smell something is not right. Perhaps some meat got left on the skin and is decomposing. I have never seen a turkey mount that had any kind of smell..I'ed call the taxidermist and have him check it out...fast!!

Goat I could understand having a smell, I have one that still has a "rutting goat" odor to it, it's been 3 years!

But the turkey should have no smell, you should really have the taxidermist check it out, somethings not right...

It's not a rancid or rotting meat smell. It appears more musky. When you walk into the room after not being there awhile you get a musky dead animal smell and a slight smokey smell. Almost like it was in the smoke house or a room that had a fire.

Does your taxidermist use a wood stove in his shop?

fabreeze on a soft cloth, be gentle with the mount. a few spaced sessions should do it. i had a corcison ram mounted that had maggots and stunk to high heaven. bagged with a bug bomb then did the above for a few days. took care of it.

coues, I fabreezed it a lot of times it seems to be airing out. My wife only yells at me once a week now instead of everyday. That tells me it's working.
