Nicely done. That's the first shooting tunnel I have seen setup like that. I would be curious to hear more about that. You actually did that in town? _______________________________

That shooting tunnel is very cool indeed! But you need more guns in the cabinet! 577NitroExpress Double Rifle Shooters Society Francotte .470 Nitro Express If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming...

The shooting tunnel is made of 7 foot diameter concrete drainage culvert. Each section is about 13 feet long and close to a foot thick. It is about 5 feet underground. I use it mostly for archery shooting or my man sized pellet rifle. The tunnel is power ventilated to the outdoors. I have fired larger caliber weapons but the noise inside the house is unacceptable (wife). I keep the shooting hardware in the safe, cabinet is lockable but not stout enough to keep someone out. The dark rifle in the left cabinet was fished out of a lake near Palmer Alaska in 1962 by my father while we were on a fishing trip. My father was not too happy as he thought that he had snagged a stump but when the rifle appeared that attitude changed quickly. It is a Winchester model 71 in 348 Win Mag. It was lost by some moose hunters a few years prior when they capsized their canoe crossing the lake. The leather rifle sling is still attached and intact after 50 years. Only the rear peep site was missing.

A friend of mine has something similar in his basement although his is 100 yards long and has all the bell and whistles with respect to electronics. He has bench for a solid rest when testing loads and he uses old tires to reduce noise --- he has them set up so his barrel is in the center of them he's actually shooting thru the holes ---does a pretty good job of noise reduction. The 2nd thing as he has a fairl heavy old rug that he has of a wire that he pulls behind him so it covers the door to the range....also helps keep out the noise. Having your own "state-of-the-art" indoor range is really the way to go. DB Bill aka Bill George

You have the ultimate hang out. Great looking room. However, you obviously are not an AR addict as you do not have your gun case overflowing with everything from AK47's to .600 OK's.... Great room...

One of the nicest I've seen, and suits my tastes very nicely! The range is fantastic too. Question, though: those halibut seem awfully short... Never seen a mount like that before, other than a bill off a sword, or with tuna around here. Some folks will nail the bluefin tails to their sheds and whatnot. Any chance of a close up? Thanks for sharing, in any event. KG ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

Some people mount their halibut and the tail is the trophy (not counting the excellent meat). I have yet to see a full mounted halibut in a private trophy room. The cost to do so would be outrageous. The Anchorage airport does have one that is over 400 lbs on display. It's as big as a small car. You can see a couple of halibut photos beside the tails. _______________________________

Seeing all those nice trophies and great room I realize a few things: 1. I missed out on a great opportunity when I turned that basement into a daughter bedroom and teen hangout place. 2. I don't spend nearly enough time hunting. 3. Even though Alberta is a great place, with tonnes of good hunting, I see a few species on that wall that I'll never hunt unless I move over one province (to the West). Well done, great room! The best thing in that room (to me) is the beautiful wolf...one of the premiere Alaskan trophies. _______________________________
