Lots, lots, lots. I have a room that is 40 x 30 and I used 32 can lights and 24 spots. I also have several table and floor lamps. Frankly, I'd like more light. You can always tone down the light with lesser wattage bulbs, but adding more cans and spots is a major pain. Go over board. You're not likely to say that it's too bright in your TR. Will J. I agree with Will! The more lights the better! You can also put them on dimmers to tone it down as well!

The height of your ceiling and the fact that it's vaulted present a few challenges that would best be handled by a lighting designer. A local electrical supply house could suggest one. They'll usually do the layout for nothing if you buy their fixtures. Make sure you drive you needs home when you talk to them. A trophy room is unique and can be a disappointment if not lit adequately. More is better than not enough. Good luck.

houston, my main trophy room is a 20 by 30 with a 15 by 30 off of it. I used track lighting and really like the advantage of being able to adjust the main focus of the lights. My main room has car siding on the ceiling and gable ends and it takes more light because of the darker wood tones but I feel the wood adds a richness to the decor. As was mentioned before you can always put lower wattage bulbs if it's too bright. Hawkeye

I think it is important to get spots, say mr-16lamps in a flood pattern about 25watts, and have them shine down directly on your trophies. Mount them apps 18" from wall. This will wash out a lot of shadows created from the overhead lighting. I have a 30x40 room with 12 sidewalks peaking to 16 in the middle. I used 16 90 watt halogen floods in the ceiling. It is not enough. It is fine for general lighting, but does not show off trophies properly. So next is spots, but I do not like to see the tracks. So we are doing low voltage by running the cables from one end of the room to the other. This will allow a boatload of spots that can criss cross each other. Just my thoughts.

Hard to beat can lights or track lighting to accent your mounts.
