Air Lions
Earlier someone asked to see some more picturs of lions. Dennis Harris of Artistry of Wildlife in Detroit had entrusted me with some in-progress pictures of his imaginative piece. If you are an SCI member, the Air Lions are in the center of the magazine. Two lionesses are taking down a gemsbok while a huge maned male is charging in to clean up. Of all 4 animals there is only TWO spots where the mounts touch the base of the display. One of those points is the male's back foot. No other animals feet touches the base. I saw it being done in pictures he entrusted to me and I see the finished mount. I just don't happen to believe it's possible.

Dennis has just posted pictures of the on www.taxidermy.net/forums and you click on "Taxidermy Industry". Look for "Air Lions"

And so if you meet a hunter who has been to Africa, and he tells you what he has seen and done, watch his eyes as he talks. For they will not see you. They will see sunrises and sunsets such as you cannot imagine, and a land and a way of life that is fast vanishing. And always he will will tell you how he plans to go back. (author: David Petzer)

That's amazing. As stated, the welder was top notch to pull that off.

Great work!
That is a fine example of showing that a good taxidermist needs to be part engineer along with being an artist.

I have seen this picture numerous times in SAFARI and had always wondered how it was made. Very neat.

Dennis told me they are pinned together with steel pins. This allows for transport. He recently (last week) swept several major awards with his Cougar/Elk mount. It's posted in the Taxidermy Forum.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

If you want a really close look there's one in Cabela's Hamburg PA store.

If not identical it's amazingly similar.
