Hey guys,
I just drew a Nunivak tag for next spring. I am trying to figure out what to do as far as a mount (if successful). A full body is most likely too big (for my wife not for the house)so I am looking at shoulder mounts, pedestal mounts, and European mounts. Can anyone share some photos?
Thanks!

I think the straight shoulder mounts look great and are small enough to not overwhelm a room. I think most of those hunts allow you take Musk Ox #2 for a reasonable charge don't they? I would pay to shoot a second and then put one shoulder mount on each side of the fireplace with a big Caribou or Elk or Bison centered.

That said, the euro mounts look pretty nice too and would look great on both sides of a larger mount in the middle.

I was in Nunivak last April, 2 musk ox, for sure get a permit for a second one, no need going up there and not getting 2 of them. I had both mine done straight ahead and I am pleased. Also, get the back hides as they turn out very nice.

Thanks Michael - they do look good. Who did your work?

Nunivak is actually a small island off the Western Coast of Alaska. It's a lottery draw - one ox only...

I had the whole hide tanned, then did a straight on shoulder mount. I threw the rest of the backskin over the sofa and I like it almost as much as the shoulder mount. If I'd have had room, I would have done a life-size.

If I ever do another one, I think I'd have the whole hide tanned and use as a throw.

I'm not really sure why they call that a "spring" hunt. Eeker
