My Newest mount

bo-n-aroMy Newest mount
This is a mount I just finished. I took this cat in Kansas while bowhunting whitetail. I saw her moving past and squeaked it with my lips. It turned and moved towards my stand. I took the shot at 10 yards as it was walking away.

Charles_HelmNicely done!

UglystickNicest cat mount I have ever seen !!!!!
Cats seem to be the true test for taxidermists, I think they are the hardest to do. If the eyes aren't just perfect the meanest Leopard or the most majestic lion ends up looking like Tom of Tom and Jerry fame.

The Buck StopperNow THAT is a fine piece of taxidermy!

hysiderGood thing that it is on a pedastal, If it was on
a stump or rock , I would say that you were trying
pass a fine picture as a mount
That's the best I've ever seen!!

jdsbo-n-aro,
I have to ask this question because it's been bugging me - please don't take it as a judgement on the mount . . . why is the claw extended on the cat's left front foot? In a normal walking position I would think it would be retracted.
The face looks great! To get the "cat look" it takes a slight overhang on the upper brow and you nailed it!

And so if you meet a hunter who has been to Africa, and he tells you what he has seen and done, watch his eyes as he talks. For they will not see you. They will see sunrises and sunsets such as you cannot imagine, and a land and a way of life that is fast vanishing. And always he will will tell you how he plans to go back. (author: David Petzer)

bo-n-aroThanks to all for the comments! I am humbled.
JDs, only you would look that close! What are you.... a taxidermist??

No worries from your question, I welcome them.
I actually struggled a bit with this. I finally decided that as the cat would start sliding down the side, that his other front paw would start to dig in a bit, hence the somewhat extended claws.
Thanks again y'all!

Great job on the cat . . . really!!!!!

L. David KeithGreat looking mount bo-n-aro. Having been a professional Taxidermist myself for many years, true artistry concerning cats and bears lies in the facial expression. Far too many mounts are rendered lifeless due to lack of correct expression. You did a very good job! BTW; all cats do use their claws to cling and or balance themselves.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

Very good looking cat. The biggest thing I see wrong when people do cats are there eyes. You did a great job there.

george roofbo-n-aro, I know you've been waiting for me. Here I am. That's an exceptionally good mount and I love the clean lines. I also like you logic about interpreting that the cat would be defensive in slipping. Great job on this one.

dustofferThe thing that is nicest to me is that there is no "snarl" but just a nice inquisitive cat face. Looks great--no, even better than great.

Fish30114That is simply the finest mounted bobcat I have ever seen, and I have seen a bunch.
If I ever take a bobcat, I would try my best to get you to mount him for me.
Exquisite!

Kamo GariMy second comment here, but that little cat is my favorite full body mount I've laid eyes on, ever. It's just amazing.
