I know I can't expect an exact figure-- but-- what would be an approximate cost for air freight on 7 heads from RSA to California-LAX?

The taxidermist said they would be in one big crate. Zebra, warthog, impala, gemsbuck, wildebeest, blesbuck, kudu.

I have heard widely spaced numbers. I am just getting a head start. I like to have some info before the event happens.

Thanks for any help.

Trophiman: LAST year, my freight bill for:
buffalo shoulder mount
full mount bushbuck including base
warthog shoulder mount
bushpig " "
impala " "
zebra rug

Came to $1,1778.43 FOB Atlanta from Johannesburg. That does not include the handling and other extraneous charges (those came to around 300 bucks but well worth it I think). All I did was show up at Coppersmith, sign the AMEX bill and drive of with my crate. Hope that helps. jorge

A month ago I picked up two crates from Novotrans.
Shipped from RSA, arrived Dulles, final destination Baltimore Washington Airport. I cleared them myself so I did not pay and importer/broker.

We did dip and ship and it included 3 kudu, 3 nyala, 4 warthogs, 3 gemsbok, 2 impala, 1 hartebeest, 1 wildebeest, 2 jackals, 4 warthogs, 1 steenbuck, and 1 baboon and a bunch of items we bought.

Cost $1281.00

Hutty, not disputing your word but how did you clear them yourself? I use to do this in Baltimore but was told you could no longer do this.

Thanks

Also apperantly you never got a whipping as a child, I said no many times. Big Grin

Die Ou Jagter:

It is no problem at all to clear your stuff at BWI. All we did was put BWI final destination with my cell phone number. Items came to DC which allowed it into the country. When the arrived in Baltimore got the phone call, went to the airport, paid $35 to USFWS and loaded them into the truck and took them home.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you want to talk more. I live about 25 minutes from BWI and have cleared stuff 3 times previously myself no problem.

I would recommend you check with Maria Europa Felix at Hunter International Brokerage. She can help you with general prices, best shippng methods, how to get it to the closest or easiest or cheapest air freight ports etc. And I have found that having them do the handling and clearing has saved me a lot of time and money.
