Hi

My dad is currently thinking about how he wants his brown bear mounted. He is thinking standing, full mounted.

Is there any good ideas/pictures out there for inspiration.

Thanks in advance

The best I ever saw, sorry no pictures, was at my taxidermist shop one time. The bear was mounted as if by the waters edge fishing and there was a glass top to look like the water and underneath the water were several types of river fish mounted.

Breith,

Here are some Kamchatka Brown Bears that are mounted standing. My favorite is the one on the far left, it looks the most natural to me.

I mounted mine in a standing pose because that how he was when I shot him.

One thing I do like about it is that the claws are at eye level and they are the thing that most visitors focus on.

Palmer, How come this is the first photo I've seen of your bear mount? It looks great.

Breith, a mount i like is one with the bear in the alert position with his head erect and forefeet two or three feet off the ground but not fully standing. it is a lot more common to see bears in the wild in this position and makes an impressive mount.

Phil, I haven't seen many mounted the way you suggested. Do you have any examples that could be posted here? I could assist with the photo posting if you need help.

PS - I enjoyed the brief phone visit when you were down this way and hope we can continue that at your convenience.

I agree about liking that one on the left the most. I've seen that pic before, and to be sure, those are some *very* impressive brutes of bruins, but intentionally or not, to me, there clearly is some degree of camera illusion going on. I'm NOT busting on anyone, but the angles, heights and distances (not to mention the pictured fellah's height Wink )make those bears seem just gargantuan. Again, they appear to me to be huge bears, but they're not IMO the 12 footers that they appear to be in that pic.

Breith,if he does a standing mount, the standing with the forearms down and the mouth slightly open is the most natural look. The standing with snarl and raised arms is not very realistic. Most guides would I believe agree with me,that being said it's his bear and can get it mounted the way he likes. Just my .02
Thanks

Hi

Thank you all for the great pictures and ideas.
I have passed it all along, and I'm sure that he got some ideas he will use.

It will be rude of me not to show a picture of the bear aswell. It's a European brown bear from Estonia.

KG,

I agree. First and foremost, all of the bears are on 2x6 bases. After that it appears that they are attached to the bases with all-thread rod which raises them another 4-6 inches. On top of that the guy in the photo is standing at an arms length from the bear, and we all know what that will do for tropy photos. Bottom line though......BIG A$$ BEARS!!

I saw one once that was posed with one foot on a log looking into the distance like it couldn't quite make out what it was seeing.

I liked it because it was high enough to be distinctive but not so high you needed 12' ceilings and the partially erect pose didn't take up a lot of floor space.
