What animals will be on the wall?

I have a very deep red on one wall- with my Dall on the wall I think it looks great. But I think the color of the animals should be considered when picking the wall color.

Thanks for replying StormsGSP. Type of animal is important and I'll bet your Dall looks awful nice on that red color. Mine are Plains game animals. Kudu, Gemsbuck, Springbuck, and Impala. I have seen some variations of Toupe colors that were very nice but seeing as though my experience with color goes from steel target flat white to paper target flat black, I'm at a loss Smiler. smoker1

I think that would be really nice. One thing I really like is the two tone effect, a lighter tan color and then some darker brown mixed in- makes the wall more interesting than one flat color.

All the major paint suppliers have color examples on their website. Here is Behr's:

You might want to take a look at threads of other members trophy rooms for some ideas.

Post pics when you are done.

You might want consider the lighting in the room also, to dark of a paint may hurt the outcome of the whole room. Also the type of mounts you have, African vs. non African might also influence your decision especially if you are trying to create an African theme, and try to find a color that picks out some of the color in the flooring.

Added the Behr site to my favorites. Good Lord is there anything that's not available on line? Much better to make a choice at home than to be in a rush at the store, thanks. I had my ceiling vaulted and the last courses of drywall compound are being applied. When the taping is done I will take a picture of the finished job and try to post it here. WORLDHUNTER1, they are all African mounts and a ample section of the wall will be dedicated to the African theme. Picked up a few artifacts but ain't got a clue how to arrange them....Put the wife on notice Smiler

I'm not very imaginative....walls always came in white and variations of white. Tried something different this time. Without proper lighting its too dark...with accent lighting it becomes several shades of brown. Kept the ceiling and trim white to break things up.

Thanks Folks!!! I will definatley go with the Brown, my Wife calls it Taupe. I think it makes enough of a contrast to make the mount stand out. Thank you very much for your help on this. I will post some pictures of the room as it progresses. smoker1

Ask your paint store guy about "sponge painting".

They lay down a light brown (in our case) and while the paint is still damp, they take a slightly darker shade and put it on with a sponge.
Then they follow up with a rag and sort of swirl it around. You get a kind of textured finish, and the two colors are intermingled.

I got my wife and her sister to do it. The brother-in-law and I set out in the back enjoying cigars, and a little Gin&Tonic (it was summer) while discussing the comparative merits of the Model 1874 VS the Model 1877 Sharps.

No consensus was reached, but a lot of gin was disposed of in a responsible adult manner...

I like the lighter green colors (not the dark forest green). I think they contrast the animals well since green is a natural color, but they don't overpower the animals either.

One of the textured or suede painting techniques in a neutral color works very well. There is a thread in this forum about a new paint job using the suede technique that shows how it might look. Do a search and check it out.

Oday450 and Sevens, found the suede post and it looks very nice but I think I'll stick with some shade of Taupe. I've seen that color used several times here and with a wide variety of animals. Always looks like a good fit. Appreciate your ideas. smoker1

Also, which is a must is the natural light entering thru windows... I have used quality vertical blinds to keep harmful direct sunlight off animals.

Retreever, that was a concern my Wife had. Even though the windows are SW facing there is very little actual sunlight that comes into the room. Thank you for your interest, smoker1

Smoker1,

I'm new here but I was reading your post and I see it's over a month old but I had an idear fer ya. I have a Game Room that I did myself and I really like how it turned out. I don't know how to post pics on this forum yet so you will have to go here to see it.

I put up the chair rail and crown first. I then painted the lower portion a dark brown and then a lighter brown that you can see above and the ceiling. I then went to Wally Werld and bought some camo burlap hide material, cut it to fit below the chair rail. You then get a couple of gallons of liquid starch, pour into a 5 gallon bucket, and then soak the burlap in it. Hang it on the wall and staple it at the top to hold it til it dries. Once it dries, WALLA! It's like wall paper!!!

I like it and very happy how it turned out. The camo ceiling fan was a kewl touch too. ;-).

I defintly would be proud of that job! Very well done. Like the wall colors also. I have finished the remodeling work and am now waiting for my trophy's to arrive so that I can get them in place along with the few others I started with. I'll try to post some pics after I get it done. Thanks for your pics, really enjoyed them. smoker1
