Wolfgang Shenk mounts lions that look like lions.
Ted, would it be possible to post any photographs of his mounts?

Ted GorslineDear Wink,
I will ask him if he can do it. I don't yet know how to post photographs. Wolfgang was the head taxidermist at Zimmerman's in Nairobi for 18 years before hunting was closed in Kenya and his African stuff is excellent. His crocs are the best I have ever seen.

georgeldI'll take the wife, just ship her up here. IF she's allowed you to do all this hunting, that's reason enough to marry her no matter what she looks like, or whether she can cook, or not don't matter.
Impressive collections,
George

Gila JorgeSpeaking of Dan Duncan and his trophies at his ranch....his office is pretty nice as well. Worked with Dan in the past on projects and he is truly one fine fellow and certainly a fine Weatherby winnder.
Did you show her the blank spot on the wall that is reserved for EX-wives?

prof242Do you think the person who owns that trophy room will adopt me? I'll be a loyal son if he takes me along on those hunting trips...even if he's younger than I am.

Devildawg66Would like to know what the dollar amount is for all the taxidermy. Anyone have the time to do an estimate from the pictures? The lever rifles are worth a small fortune.

Old Elk HunterWith all those trophies you haven't been home much. Are you sure she is your wife?
RELOAD - ITS FUN!
Most of those pics are from the great room in the main house on the DD Ranch at Rosanky. The pic of the M94s is from the main room in the smaller guest house.
Each of the bedrooms upstairs (there are 4 iirc) and the two bedrooms in the guest house are chocked full of mounts as well. I don't recall seeing any pics from the back bar area downstairs either...that is full, too.
The best of his mounts are in his house in Houston - so I am told. I have not been in that house. I can only imagine. There are some pics in the "Great Hunters" book I think.
Yes, Dan Duncan is a very gracious and generous man. I have never met him personally, but I have been the recipient of his hospitality on several occasions. He is one of the classic American success stories as well.
I would be happy to carry his water for him!

The Winchesters were a gift from his wife...I doubt he'd get rid of those!

sewinbasherHere's a question that might hurt a little. How much did that lot take to accumulate in safari/guide/trophy fees.
Impressive nonetheless.

PhilipvI was at Dan Duncan's place last year. These pictures are only half of the houses. He says he hasn't added a trophy to his homes since 1992. Everything since then is in storage. He is building a 20,000 sq/ft trophy room for the ones in storage

yukon deltaCool markhor in one of the photos. How many people do you know who have done that?
His polar bear is a little skinny thing. He needs to do that again. Other than that it's not too shabby.
You have to shake your head when you see someone putting their brown bear rug under the bed...oh, that old thing? Shucks.

cobrajetWell I'll venture a guess at the cost. I counted roughly 250 shoulder mounts and 35 full body mounts. Figure an average of 800 each for the shoulder mounts and 4 grand each for the full bodys and your looking somewhere in the neighborhood of 340 grand. Giver or take 50 grand.

And I thought I was thinking big when I settled on 8,000 square feet for my dream trophy room. I guess I need to dream a little bigger.

i think another polar bear hunt is out of the question. helicopters are notoriously undependable in the artic- entirely too risky
