I want to start loading for my 44 Mag, and I bought a box of these: http://www.missouribullet.com/...condary=12&keywords= The load data on the Unique website shows only one load, 7 grains of powder delivering about 900 FPS. That seems pretty tame. Am I correct in assuming these bullets are mostly suitable for low-power loads?

You could definitely push them faster than 900 fps. If you have a load manual, it will certainly have loads for a Keith style 240 grain SWC. I'd use 2400 or H110, and start with the starting loads, and work up from there until you see signs of leading, high pressue, or you hit max. BTW, that load with 7 grains of Unique is a good one. It's my practice load for my .44 mags.

Uncle Alvah--If you are going to shoot much, I'd consider casting your own. At $46 for 500 you can recoup your initial costs. I'd vote for Unique powder.

+1 on the Unique Powder for those bullets. 8.5 gr is a very comfortable and accurate load. 10 gr makes for a mid level magnum load at 1175 out of 6 - 6 1/2" barrels. Larry Gibson

The classic load for hunting with that style of bullet will be 18 to 21 grs of 2400 I second getting a mold and casting your own. Castboolits has a couple of custom mold makers who will make a mold that can cast hpts or solids. You can adjust your lead to work at low velocity or high velocity. Here is an example of a true Keith style bullet and a hpt mold
