Today was opening day and I shot a deer with the BFR 45-70 and my homemade boolit. I hit the rear edge of the shoulder and destroyed both lungs and the heart was actually in two pieces. The deer went straight up at the shot and ran into the ground in around 30 feet. The entry and exit holes were the same size. There was no meat damage and I only had to cut around the hole to get rid of the hair. Other then some spine hits, this was the fastest a deer has gone down with my revolvers. They usually go 30 to 40 yds. Tremendous deer gun. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Good Show bfrshooter!!!

Sean,

Spent some time this autumn working out loads based on the mold you helped me spec for the Searcy double rifle. Got it to touching holes right and left barrel at 100 yards with the iron sights!!

Hit a youngish 4point with the 470 NE driving one of the 500 gr .476 GCFPs at 1500 fps this afternoon. Deer jumped about 10 feet in the air, hit the ground running, and fell over at about 30 yards when the adrenalin ran out.

Damage much like bfrshooter described. Small entrance, small exit, lots of damage in between.

Thanks for the help with the mold!!!! This is going to be a life time of good fun!

475/480, I made the mold. It's like an LBT with a large meplat. I cast them hard so they will penetrate a tree. It doesn't need any expansion and will most likely penetrate two deer end to end. I have put 4 out of 5 touching at 50 yds. It weighs 317 grs. [Big Grin]

Wow, sounds great. That is a nice looking boolit BTW. If I didn't love Idaho so much, I might consider moveing to a state where you can shoot lots of deer.

A little late on the reply here. Hollidays and all.
