I'm going to try a few new powders for the HBC design.. just a mite slower than my current Blue Dot and 4759 loadings. So I find a container of Aliant 10 on the shelf the other day shoppin' and it made the trip home. It's been tried in the 6PPc of late and the accuracy is there. Appears this is the case with the 06 and the prototype HBC bullet.. 27+ grs made 1840's with the first two sighters off my target but appearing to be very tight. So I adjusted and let the next three fly.. about into the same hole at 100. Same loading crimped with the Lee FC did about 2" with somewhat more speed.

30 grs same made 2030's and this time the crimped loading took out the standard albeit speeds were very close. Three of those clustered again.. with the wiped bore fouler [had checked for leading w none] going well out of the group.

None of the bullets weighed, just visual inspection.

Interastin' first run... with this #10.

I had Mountain Molds make a bullet mold throwing a 200 grain gas checked bullet with a nose taper of .301 to .305 then .311 for the rest of the body. There's a big wide meplat should this bullet make it out to the hunting fields.
One of my shooting buddies tells me that it looks a 30 caliber wad cutter, almost. There's enough rounding at the nose for feeding thru a lever action and a bolt gun.
Now that I have a bunch of sized and lubed bullets, 30-06 cases trimmed, sized, neck uniformed, primer pockets uniformed and primed, I have a problem. I have no idea what powder to use.
I have some Rl-7, H110, IMR 4198, IMR 4895, AA2520, IMR4350, H4831sc, Bullseye, WW 231, Unique and I've forgotten what else.
It's my idea to use the IMR 4198 or the IMR 4895 as if I was loading a 200 grain jacketed bullet, but at the bottom of the chart. Any suggestions?
Where does RL-10 fit in the constellation of powders?

Jim #10 sits just on the slow side of Aliant 7 or again the slow side of 3031.

You didn't state the hardness of your bullets or the speed desired. Assuming a softer bullet than treated ww alloy, I'd go for the slow numbers starting at 2000 fps and working up. 4831 and 4350 do well in reduced psi loadings, just maintain a minimum of 75% of case capacity loadings.

Lyman shows 50 grs of 4350 making 2400+ with 47K cup using 311284. Drop that 3-4 grs and your in the mid 30's for pressure and probably 2200 fps-- easing that slug down the bore for minmum distortion.

Here's some of my results with a lyman 215gn G.C., cast of WW, water dropped, sized .312,lubed with 50/50 alox/beeswax, with some of the powders you mentioned in 30-06. I used Lake City brass,

IMR4198 25.0gn 1827fps Sd-17 CCI 200 primers

IMR4895 31.5gn 1812fps Sd-16 WLR primers

HercRE-7 27.0gn 1840fps Sd-16 CCI 200 primers
