The twist in my Model 70 never really agreed with cast bullets, although others have good luck. I believe BruceB on the Shooters Cast Bullet board has one that is a good shooter. You might inquire, or do a search over there.

As far as hard cast, at the velocity you are wanting to shoot, you will probably be better off with air cooled wheeel weights, rather than hardened.

Start at about 14 grains of Red Dot, or 15 gr. Green Dot, or 17 gr. Unique.

These should get you started.

My model 70 with the 220 gr. CGC Lee bullet is a shooter with 39 grains of 3031 without filler! More or less powder is so-so in my gun but velocities vary to meet your need.

Same load with Hornady flat point is my whitetail load for local close shots at "small" TN whitetails.

Just my load and it might NOT work for you.
Velocities are above your target 2-300 fps.

Any new data for the .338 WM cast loads? I'm going to try the Red & Green Dot loads suggested as those powders are what I use for cast loads in my Sako 46 Bee squirrel rifle.
