Hiya guys Canuck from shooterstalk here. I'd appreciate some help from the cast bullet crowd. Anyone here have any experience with Hornady 150 btsp at low velocities? I'm launching 30-30 type velocities out of a littel model Seven. I'm talking 2200-2250 with the 150 grainer. Accuracy is amazing. A real confidence builder. However, I'm worried about expansion at reduced impact velocities. Any comments? Frozenny aka Canuck

Canuck, you have to rely upon what is said about the bullet in the HDY manual. Hafta' assume that if the bullet was made for a 30-30, then it will work at 30-30 velocities. We probably need a test of some sort, don't you think? Maybe a wild something running around your back yard, say about 50 yards out? ... felix

Canuck What is the purpose of the reduced velocity load? I have some experience with low recoil loads in short barreled 308 rifles......went through that while working on loads for my son's 308. The load we settled on uses a 125 Rem bullet and IMR 4198 powder.....it is very accurate (sub 1" @ 100) and it is deadly on the deer around here. It isn't really a low velocity load but the recoil is substaintally less than normal 308 loads. If you really do need a bullet that will expand at low velocity, look at either the 30-30 type bullets or the Hornady 130 grain single shot pistol bullet. The 130 SSP bullet is an interlock design that is made to expand at single shot handgun velocities. This bullet has proven deadly on deer when fired from TC Contender handguns chambered in 30-30. Starting out at a muzzle velocity of about 2300-2400 fps, the damage is extensive and we have never recovered a bullet from the several deer we have killed with it.
