Well one of the local boys just shot a 400 lb male blackbear about 100 yds or so away from my mailbox. He used a 30-30..factory bullets. I'm located in TN...that's a nice sized bear for here.

I would be worried that the Black Bear would eat me for a snack and use the 30-30 for a toothpick [Big Grin]

Glad he got the bear before he made it to your mailbox. He might've made off with your Midway sale flyer!

That's a good bear! Don't see many that size. There is a local fellow here, who lives to hunt big bears. He showed me pictures of his last years kill. It was 600 lbs. and looked like a small mountain. It was the number 2 or 3 bear in the state last year. He said he killed it above the avocado groves, so if you feed them bears some fruit they will get bigger. He killed his with a 30-378 Weatherby at 400 yards or so. He has one record book bear that was mounted and is displayed in the big museum in Cody, Wyoming.

The official weigh in came after he took the bear to the checkstation. 423 pounds. The old boy that said that bear went about 400 or little over was damn good at estimating. I can kick myself in the ass for not taking my camera out with me.
