We ll fellas, went to the range yasterday and had some mixed results. Shot my trusty mod 88 winchester in .308. Worked up from 30 gr. of 748 Winchester ball powder to 35 gr. this is wirh rhe Lyman 170 gr. boolet, roond nose. All groups at 50 yards were about 2 1/2 inches. Powder charge didn't seem to matter, same boreing group. Had these loaded so they would work through the mag. with the gas check protruding into the powder space. the nose engraved at the start of the rifling makiing the lever a little hard to close. This load seems to want to shoot better. With the j word boolets the rifle shoots in to 1 1/2 inches every day. Will have to exsperment some more!

Also shot the 7.53 agintine calvery carbine. Used the 200gr. custon Lee mould we got here awhile back. Worked up from 30gr, of 4985 to 35gr. It took about 15 shots to get them on paper. The rear sights had to be moved up to 900 meters. At best, this rifle could only do 6 inches at 50 yds. Final load was 35gr. of 4895 with this bullet. It wasen't max but was more than enough in this little Argie 1909 calvary carbine with it's steel butt plate. I am going to have to re think this one. As I loaded the rounds for this one, I noticed how hard it is to grt these long bullets seated streaght. The short neck of the 7.53 argie makes it hard with this long bullet. try as I might I think this is the souce of all evil. I had hope this would be a great hunting load but it looks like I'll have to back up and learn this rifle a little better.

As a possitive note, My recent 25-06 printed an 1.25 group at a hundred with factory j bullets from Fedral. Only fired the one group but it leaves me happy!
