I promised some pictures of a low forged bolt handle from my forged bolt jobs that I just finished. Bear with me as this is my first try at posting any pictures, so they may be messy.

This is the bolt as bent by forging (flattening) the bolt body material down to fill the block recess. This automatically aligns the bolt angle for a perfect ball touching stock bolt handle installation and will give maximum relief to a scope end bell.

 -

This is what the bolt looks like when it is inletted into the Yugo's stock. Notice that the wood sticks up as much as the flattened section of the bolt handle does.

 -

Next is a Mexican M95 full-ball bolt which was a good bit longer straight full round ball bolt which forged over very nicely into a nice tight "contact the stock with the ball" configuration.

 -

Wheeler Technology, the folks that built these forging blocks did a good job of the block angles and the pack zone design, the blocks gave good results with both a modern pre-bent (a shorter handle half-ball style Yugo bolt) and also with a old long M95 straight full ball bolt.

Paul Mauser's bolts, his actions and his stock designs were pretty much standardized as were everything else about his guns, so I guess I shouldn't be amazed that the Wheeler Technology folks can make a nice set of forging blocks to bend his bolts with.

 -

After all, they have only had a hundred years to fiddle with it to get it just right.

Ok, I put the pics on ofoto.com so they are on the web. I copied the address and said "image" and dropped the address into the little bar thingy. What did I leave out?

oldfeller--from what I can pull up with my limited computer skills, the only thing I notice you left out are the pictures. Everything else looks fine though.

Good morning Oldfeller,
If you're still going to bend bolt handles for the brethren, I could sure use one bent. When and if you're ready please advise your address and I'll mail you the stripped bolt and money.
Thank you and God Bless,
Randall in Houston (printolive@ev1.net)

.......Oldfeller, you create a link to the picture. Either your picture hosting site does it and you cut & paste, or you do it by right clicking on the picture and then left clicking on 'copy shortcut'. Then paste the address into the popup box, and click on 'OK'. It will then copy the image into the message screen with an [IMG] tag before and after the address. This then opens into the picture.

Thanks Buckshot, that tripped its trigger.

Now how do you get them correctly located up into the text? They seem to want to pop down to the bottom and stay there, no matter where you try to put the link up in the text.

Hey Mike,

Got a quick little question before I start taking in a bunch of bolts for me to have to worry with, why the heck are we raising this money again?

So far nobody is coming to the Fall Gun Show Shoot in October and you only have 2 takers responding so far for the Spring 2004 Root's Roost Rendevous.

I think we ought to get a wee bit more folks committed to come to the big 2-day spring event before we start busting ourselves to raise all the money to buy all the stuff needed to put it together.

Point being, we already have enough bent bolt money collected to buy a small sack of grass seed and enough 2x6s to build the shooting bench for a 2 person crowd.

I dunno, maybe they all just didn't understand they needed to go sign up on the thread.

(hint -- all you east coast folks go sign up on the Spring 2004 Root's Roost Rendevous thread so us organizer folks will get encouraged enough to go spend the rest of the needed time and effort and money putting the shoot together)

OldFeller, maybe the site you have your pics on doesn't allow for remote access?
You can see from two post above the format I used to display them here, the problem with those was the space at the end. The ones just above here that worked, I deleted the space.
www.fortunecity.com has free web space and is pretty easy to use.
That's where I have most of my gun pics at.

Lar, I think it is more sinister than that, I think Ofoto generates the pic address based off the time you logged in that day, and when you log off and some time elapses, then your stuff loses its link when they fold your stuff back up tightly and put it away.

Thanks for the lead on a web pic lister that doesn't put you away after a few minutes elapse.

Oldfeller, I found your pics at the address you linked to, then copied them to my site. So your pics should still be at the same address, that's where I found them.

thats a nice looking bend. i did not finish mine as nice, left it in the hammer forged finish. i bent the ball back and out instead of the half ball treatment. all in all, a very nice job.

Mike, the Yugo 48-A bolt comes about half bent with the half-ball removed thing already done. All I had to do was forge it on over to the full bend position, which aligned itself on the flat portion of the half ball.

That same beat-it-on-over-all-the-way alignment with the full ball bolt handle resulted in the ball just touching stock, the third picture.

Half balls just touch the stock, full balls just touch the stock. I think Wheeler Technology had their act together pretty good when they did those bending blocks.

Oldfeller,
I'm going to unscrew a couple Mausers this weekend, if things work correctly, and will be ready to send a couple of bolts.
This is provided you're not covered up at this junction.
I just figured out the Shooters site has finally gone away. I figured I was still having the problems associated with the last couple of weeks. Anyhooo if you could please spell out for me what procedure(where to, How much $, how many, and when) I need to use I would appreciate it. Sounds like a very good cause!
Thanks.

Hey Dave, send me an email to Oldfeller123@aol.com and we will discuss the particulars for what you want.

I am getting hit with a bunch of folks who are entering this thing not knowing the full story since it started over a month ago on Shooters (before Shooters died).

The $19 donation just covers bending your bolt over and kissing your square on your bolt root back down to your original numbers so it will fit your action again. At that price all the forged area grinding and all finish sanding of the bolt is up to you.

I've got people wanting to have me grind their forged area ground off like the pictures. Fine, for a total donation of $29 I will radius grind your forged area like the pictures but you will still have to use fine wet or dry paper to blend things in and get all the black off your bolt.

Also, be aware that the purpose in this was to collect money for a spring shoot (Root's Roost Rendezvous). We are very close to having excess dollars collected for the shoot, so I will be cutting this fund-raiser off pretty soon.

If you want your bolt bent, e-mail me at Oldfeller123@aol.com to start your process.
