I am thinking about making a bolt rifle based on the savage 10 or 110 in 338-08 improved or 338-06. I do not want to buy a complete rifle, but rather a used or new action only. Where can I get one? Thanks.

For your information Weatherby makes a 338-06 and I don't believe it's on their real expensive model.

Ranb, it's one of the oddities of life that you can usually buy a complete rifle cheaper than you can buy an action.

I dunno if Savage is even selling actions alone now. They did in the past, but the actions did not get discounted the way rifles did.

Hunting seasons are winding down now in most of the country and poor fellows are raising Christmas money. It wouldn't be too hard to find a Savage 110 slightly used for $100 less than Walmart sold it for in September. Ebay the barrel and stock and you wind up with your action for less than half of what a new action costs if you can find one.
