I think this would be something worth trying. Anybody out there doing it? What (powder, bullet, hardness, gaschek etc) works?

It's not a rigby, but I shoot a 416 Rem. with a 375 gr RNGC cast from an NEI mold over accurate XMP-5744. Works fine and much cheaper than Speer 350 grainers, the cheapest 416 bullet available. I cast them from commercial pistol bullets that i melted down and used lyman moly lube. Accurate powder has load info for the rigby on their site.

Go to http://www.customcastbullets.com/rifle.htm for some great cast bullet at great prices. I have purchased some from Wayne before for my .577 T-Rex, 50BMD, and .510/460Wby and they are great quality. In the next couple weeks I will be picking up some of his .417", 435gr FNGC bullets for my Rigby and they're only $45 per 500.

I like the idea of actually practicing with the big rifle ... and the cost of bullets is an issue. Just starting to use 400 grain slugs cast from NEI GC mould by The Bullet Shop (bullshop@midrivers.com). They size to .417. I've had trouble getting XMR powders here. Tried 105 gr or 8700 however, and it worked very well.

Thanks for the input. I've added CustomCast to my favorites list and will definatley try the XMP 5744 powder. Keep the recipes coming. Anybody done any hunting with cast bullets in this bore? Bet they'd work pretty good on prairie rats. Might even be the ticket on elk.
