Good point, Jumptrap, we need to go to our all our alternative reading spots and actually post a call to rally the clan, giving them the URL for this particuar little spot.

http://www.nookhill.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=19;DaysPrune=60

This isn't actually intuitive to somebody when you just tell them to go to Accurate Reloading, they can easily get lost on the way there, much less in burrowing down to where we actually are down deep inside the site.

Go to all the various cast bullet lists and actively post a call to rally the clan, telling them the feet have done voted and the toes have all been tallied up and the vast majority of Shooters picked here.

-- so here is where we are

I'm working on it as we speak. My address book is sorta messed up, screwed up because of all the junk addresses that come into the book automatically. Some addys are coming back because of rejection software on the receipient's machine. Please allow FMR72901ATJUNODOTCOM into your mailboxes. ... felix

With the virus thing going on a heck of a time to loose everyone.

Hi guys, I'm glad this site was chosen to regroup. It's always been one of my favourites, except the cast room was rather quiet. I guess that'll change now. Good to see so many familiar faces, & a thanks to Saeed for the invite. Ron.D

Thanks so much for guiding me to this site. I was not allowed to post on Shooters.com at work for the last 2 months and was really missing it. I used to post as "donny" on Shooters. I didn't post often, but lurked often. Did the guys from the "blackpowder" board come here also?

Hello, y'all--

It looks like the crowd is gathering HERE--good to find ya. I got busy for a while on a case, then try to return to Shooters during a quiet minute and POOF--it's gone.

I've been enrolled here for a little while, and I like the site a lot. Now that more of the Shooters Cast Boolit Compadres are joining up, all the better!

I'm here. Not with any answers mind you. I'm the one with all the questions! [Big Grin] (It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it). And am I ever thankful for all your guys help. I hope the following on this forum is as enlightening and fun as what I have perceived the Shooter.com to be. I found out about Shooters.com after Vertical has closed business. Welcome to all who are here and I'm passing the word to others about where the knowledgable cast bullet loaders hang out. Good shooting! Mike

I don't know whose idea it was to regroup here if Shooters.com went down...but kudos to whoever it was. When I couldn't reach Shooters, I checked the old bookmark I had for the backup...and immediately saw some familiar names.

I'll miss Shooters for it would appear that after a week it is down for good. I'll particulary miss the chronological order of the posts. However, many thanks to Accurate Reloading for hosting the old clan...after all, it's the members who do the posting that make the site. Shooters had more cast bullet expertise than any site I've seen. If they all make it over here, the cast bullet board at Accurate Reloading will simply become what Shooters was...to the cast bullet world at least...and I will continue to mainly do what I have always done...lurk and learn.

Hey Guys I made the jump.

Had problems with a computer virus but got that behind me. Whoever puts those things out is a great candidate for a retroactive abortion with a large caliber cast bullet right between the horns.

Been a little warm down here but got a little casting/shooting done. The 43 Mauser is doing pretty fair, 1896 Krag is as sweet as ever. The two 03's are behaving well. Still behind on my 6.5X53R but picked up a .270 sizer from Oldfeller which is helping a lot. My .308 700 BDL is not doing well at all, either had a bad batch of bullets or screwed the pooch on my bedding.

Haven't had any contact with the Tucson Galenaholics lately, hopefully when cooler weather comes I'll get back with them.

Work is just not fun anymore. Used to just go out & round them up. Not anymore, have to kill a stand of trees just to process one of them anymore.

Have Fun, JCherry

Topic? What WAS that topic again? Oh yes, survival of the old Shooters group and staying together. At least that was the topic when this thread started out a week or so ago, anyway.

Seems like we did that surviving together thing OK, now folks are off exploring around checking out other sites for various forms of functionality that are missing or weak here.

Swapping over to someplace with better functions would be OK --- I'd just hate to make a bi-monthly thing about it (or get into a fuss over it).

Simply find us an obviously better place to be and crank up some good content there and let the various feet vote, just like they did last time.

Please remember, these commercial sites seem to come and go with the swings in the economy. Perhaps this Dubai-based site will stick around better than the All-Vertical site and some of the other commercial sites did.

Accurate Reloading has changed server farms several times over the years judging from the hits you get off its name from a search engine, but it has survived intact for a goodly long period of time too.

AIMOO scares me just a tiny wee little bit -- it could turn from being free to being pay-me if things got much tougher. Any site that has to ask for $$$ donations in the header must need some extra money or they wouldn't be asking for the donations, now would they?

=========== now into not-serious mode ============

<g> Now, if you guys wanted to really go real-time chronological based, we could all crank up AIM Clients on our PCs and post a huge copy-and-paste buddy list to each other and then we could be just like all the "properly connected" teenagers in the world today.

I used to see my teen-aged daughter with 5-8 AIM client windows lit up all at the same time she was playing an on-line game, carrying on her five+ conversations and slaying her flamethrowing dragons all at the same instant in time.

It made my head swim, seeing "modern parallel communciation" taking place like that. Then the daugher went to college and she suddenly "I've got to have at least a gigabite of systems memory and a much faster processor and a 7 nan-sec 120 gig hard drive just so I can do my engineering homework".

No shit, she was running her NCSU Engineering homework (two old-style memory intensive mainframe programs) while she was doing all the "communicating" plus she had a few new games her buddies were playing (all lit and running at the same time). She was doing stuff that 2 old IBM mainframes couldn't have handled simultaniously, much less all the internet games and 20-deep chat stuff she had going on at the same time.

Ah, the kid-power of a university level T-6 internet connection with all your buddies and a fast modern PC with lots of DDR memory. It is really just a permanent university-wide LAN party that goes on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Now she has her own router-based network in her room, with two Linux machines (old PCs) and one very modern Intel PC. Only she knows what they are all doing grinding away in the background (maybe doing her homework??).

I'm running her old toasted, fried, rejected old beat up couldn't keep up for anything PC now and it is plenty fast and strong enough for ANYTHING a sane gun-person could ever want to do.

It just smells a little insulation-toasty, if you know what I mean.

Gents,
The "Donation" thing is right along the lines of the FWFBL melt for Castpics,,,,this thing gives me the option of it staying a "free" board or buying in and gaining features. The buy in is 30 bucks and I and Krag35 are splitting it so the "moneybag" has been deleted. I think Aim will outlast us by the number of groups they have....I browsed for 2 hours and never hit the end of the list. 45nut

Here me are. I've been here for some time. I started looking elsewhere months ago when it was announced that shooters was going away. In the On-line world that means tommorow! For awhile I thought it was a false alarm and that it would remain. I am glad all have resurfaced here as I learned a lot at Shooters. Elsewhere on this forum when they talk about dead cats they mean the kind that could "do unto you"....I enjoy this board and it is better with all of the shooters transplants. JB

Yep, someones gotta pay for it. Aimoo is no different than this board, someone is footin the bill. As long as that is the case, they all have the potential to close (go off line). Aimoo is inexpensive @ $30 for 120,000 page views. Ken has offered to put his time (and money to get it started) into maintaining the board and a couple of bucks (from every member) every six months aint much considering what you get in return. Most of us already have paid for CASTPICS one way or another, and there's gotta' be a way for us to get a chrono page going on that site or one associated. This is a Sundog look-see job, and I have yet to call AllVertical in earnest for obtaining the software, paid or otherwise. No point in obtaining software unless we have a corporate machine to run it on. That means reliable "T" internet-only lines coming into the establishment. Home computers are out to lunch in this matter as evidenced by LostCajun's archive mechanism. ... felix

Thanks for the vote of confidence there, bud [Wink] [Roll Eyes] [Big Grin]
Wouldn't you know it... first time in 6 months that machine goes offline for more than a reboot, and EVERYBODY'S looking at it. [Mad]
But Felix is right, something as critical as a Cast BULLETin Board would require better hardware, power, and backup than a normal home evironment could offer. If y'all saw the "loose collection of parts flying in tight formation" I call my server, you'd probably spit in your lead pot. Heh.. I'll have to get a pic of it.

First thing we need to do is figure out where Shooters went, who are the successors,
former shareholders, or whatever. Was there a formal dissolution, bankruptcy, what? I
understand the domain name expires if it is not renewed. When is it due to expire and
does the entity which assigns the domain names have contact information for the present
owner?
