I see several folks posts using WC 820 for cast loads. Anyone out there with loads for Hornet, 7mm TCU, 30-06?

Is the a case capacity limit to make it work with Cast Bullets?

I have a bunch since one of the companies goofed a couple of years ago and sent it rather than what I oredered! I had some on hand and 8 pounds in that order already. 20-22 pounds of WC820 is a lot of WC820. I do have a dandy load taken straight from the Sierra Manual (H-110 data of course) using the 300 grain condum hollow point bullet in the 45-70.

I used 10gns with a 165 in my 06 and got fairly good accuracy at 25yds. I haven't checked velocity or anything else yet, just wanted to see if it would go bang. It cut my group size in half from 700x so I went out this weekend and shot up all my 700x loads to clean out the brass.

I've been using 13 to 14gr. in my SKS with a ~145gr. CB (looks like the Lee 7.62x39mm design), but I consider 15gr. max. for my needs. For the .30-06, 8mm Mau. & 7.5 Swiss, start at 13gr., depending on bullet weight and your needs and work up to 16gr. Use a chronograph and be mindful of pressure signs as some lots of 820 may be faster than others. ...Maven

TCLouis et al--

In my experience, WC-820 surplus powder is a LOT closer too AA-9 than to H-110 in behavior. My first loads with this powder (doing the 10% undercharge safety margin test drive) made me VERY happy that I started low--REAL GOOD velocities in that Ruger 41 Magnum!

WC-820 is a fine magnum revolver powder in all respects. Using AA-9 data, it has done well in all the maggies (32 through 44), 45 Colt, and 10mm.

I've played with the powder profiles on quickload and have one that gives a good estimate of velocities for WC820 in the cartriges I shoot it in. I have no idea if the pressure predictions are even close, but they seem reasonable.
With that said, I ran the 7tcu and 22 Hornet with it.
7TCU 150 gn 14" WC820??
14gns 1603fps 26.6kpsi
16gns 1784fps 36.6kspi
18gns 1951fps 49.1kspi

22 Hornet 37gn WC820??
14" bbl 11gns 2622fps 36.8kpsi
22" bbl 11gns 2882fps
22" bbl 49gn bullet
10gns 2587fps 41.5kpsi

This is not load data, just something that popped up on my screen. I can send my file for WC820 to anyone who would want to look at it and see if it compares with what they are shooting.

My experience is like Deputy Al's. When I got my pulldown WC820 it was being sold as "using 296 or H110 data." Under 240 grain lead bullets in my 7 1/2" .44 Mag Super Blackhawk, 22 grains WC820 gave something like 75 FPS more than the 25 grains of 296 I was used to, IIRC. Don't have the numbers handy. I feel safe shooting that load, but I'm not going to increase it.

I'm in a downloading phase right now. Playing more with blackpowder-level loads using Nitro 100 and #2.

I'm going to use those two powders under the little Lee 113 grain oilcan bullets I just got the 6-hole die from grumble for, in .30-06. Bet about 10 grains of either will give a velocity in the 1600 FPS class, mild pressures and unnoticeable recoil.
