I shoot several WWII MilSurp rifles. I would like to shoot cast bullets in these rifles, but I have a couple of general questions; 1. How much over groove should the cast bullet be sized for best accuracy? 2. I want to try and duplicate an original military load of a 200gr. head @ 2250-2300fps. Generally, will I be better off with a fast or slow powder in trying to reach this velocity?? TIA for your time.

1. It depends on how hard the bullets are and what works in the gun, which goes to barrel quality. I use .002 over measured groove dia and larger with heat treated bullets in the 06's. 2. Usually the slower powders will shooten the best. A slower accelleration into the bore and lower peak psi's for a given speed mean less bullet deformation-- and better groups. 54 grs of Aliant 19 gave me 2450 fps shooten 311644 [200 grs with check] treated hard and the best accuracy in one 06. Aliant 22 and IMR 4831 were right in there too. 7828 did well also. Lube's very important at those speeds. The thinner bodied and runny flavors won't cut it. Moly coating the cast and then lubing them is likely the best route for extended shooten minus problems.
