Well guys I say I would test a test comparision between Dacron and Kapok. I finally got my Kapok and loaded up and was at my back yard range today.
Same rifles CZ 30-06 with scope, Yugo 98 8mm Mauser with peeps sights, 91 Argentine carbine open sights, and my 8x56R Austrian Mannlicher.

This part for Felix...I'm shooting the Lyman 314299 made of wheel weights, double cavity mould. I don't shoot just one cavity from the mould, I don't weigh the boolits, I don't orient them and size them the same way. I just cast them, size them, and load them. Load is 30grs of surplus 844, with kapok wad. Old WRA military 1953 brass. Today the kapok did better in this rifle. As you remember I shot that pretty small square hole last time. Well this time it put 4 bullets into about a 45 cal hole and the 5th moved off a hair for a little less then a 1/2 inch group. I can't believe how this rifle shoots cast. Like I said before it shoots cast better then jacket. Imagine, Felix, if I did shoot just one side of the mould, weighed the boolits, and sized them the same way and all the other little tricks. This rifle may just cut one very small hole with lead.

The 8mm Mauser shrunk from about 2 inch groups to one ragged 3/4 inch hole. My mouth fell open on that one. Load there was 28 grs of 844 with the kapok wad and the bullet was the Lee 175 gr. Damn thing almost shot as good as the CZ 06

The Argentine tightened up a wee bit, about 2 inches at 100 yds which I think is good concidering the short barrel, stock sights, and my poor eyes.

The Austrian I will retest because it stayed the same..which was about 2 inchs.

All these rifles are shooting lead plently good enough to hunt with, which I will be this season.

Can't wait until I get my 260 Arisaka back from Shaws..yup got lead waiting to shoot out if it also.

Joe, it appears you are the one to represent us (Castpics) in a genuine cast BR match. How good are you under pressure and in reading terrible conditions? Do you have a gun that can compete? You know, a high teens shooter at worst. ... felix

Joe, I'm not sure, but Maven would know the current classes because he gets the CBA rags. There would be, or should be, a class where you can shoot a gun you already have. If not, maybe there's enough interest to help you fund such a gun out of Castpics' future proceeds earmarked for such a deal. Thataway, everyone participating in the economic endeavor can enjoy shooting such a gun once in their lifetime. You develope its load, shoot it during a season, and then pass it around for those willing to ante up shipping money to the next in line. ... felix

Starmetal & Felix, As far as the CBA is concerned, you can use "as issued" or modified milsurp rifles in their "military" postal matches. Modifications can include scope or aperture sights and a new bbl., but not a 1 1/8" bench bbl. In case you need to know, "production rifles" must be less than 11 lbs. ...Maven
