Lonewolf I use cast bullets in my 375 Whelen, exclusively. The fella who re-barreled the Mauser action cut a real tight chamber, as I asked. When I make the cases, 30-06 necked up, I need to uniform the case neck thickness to get easy chambering. May want to try this. I have some new starline brass coming in some say there necks are a tad thinner then the 38-55 winchester brass. I think I could get by with 38-55 in .379 with GC installed but for BP loads I would like to bump up to .380

Today came the sample brass from starline they sent me 2 rounds for testing :The brass they sent was 2.128 before I did anything I re sized it and wanted to see if it will chamber (no problems) I then loaded a dummy round using a cast bullet at .381 the same bullet was loaded yesterday in Winchester brass which turn out to be a NO GO I trim the new brass to 2.125 and the .381 bullet at a COAL 2.525 chamber with out any problems:I read this on a few other post on different forum but I did not think it was going to work but it did

That is good to hear lonewolf. I just did a chamber cast of my H&R and the chamber neck measures .394 right at the case mouth. My case neck measures .400 about .400 back from the case mouth and is a straight taper. That is my chamber does not have a straight neck section. My bore dia. is .375 and the groove diameter is .380. My chamber is only 2.100 long so it is the right length for the current 2.080 long brass. The .38-55 chambered rifles have been discontinued BTW.

20:1 or 15:1 lead/tin when sized smaller than the bore should "bump" to fill the bore when used in front of the faster burning smokeless propellants but much more so in front of real black powder (no substitutes!) The problem I see is that you are depending on buying cast bullets and I simply don't trust someone else to make me cast bullets. Have you considered casting your own? Or getting as-cast bullets and sizing and lubing them yourself? In any case I'd suggest two different forums for discussion of your issues.... the first is Cast Boolits where casting and other related topics are discussed http://castboolits.gunloads.com/ The second is BCPR Black Powder Cartridge Rifle. and 38-55 definatly qualifies. http://www.bpcr.net/forum/index.php?sid=841213ee60a12d27d244f539bed96e73 AD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day!
