Shot this today out of my Remington Rolling Block 45/70 Green Mountain barrel. I was resighting in my tang sight as I made the aperature a bit larger. 405 grain Lee cast bullet hollow base and 40 grains of 3031. shot at 50 yards. 2.5 inches high from aiming point puts them right in there at 100. This was shot at 50 yards as my 50 year old plus eyes is tough to sight in at a 100 but 50 works well.

I've had similar results in my Ruger #1 x 45-70. The Lee 405 plain base is a great design in this caliber, and shoots accurately from 1000 FPS to 1450 FPS in my rifle.

Yea this base is the hollow style but it works well at least for what I want to do and that is a have a accurate bullet for paper and for hunting. Though Hunting can be a bit tireing with a 12# rifle.

Hear that, sir. The Ruger only weighs a little over 7#, and is a delight to carry afield--but the recoil is exhilarating when Lyman #462550's get launched at 1500 FPS or so. No free lunch.
