Anybody make a 550-450gr gas check bullet designed for something other than the 45/70. I would love a link to a website that I could order from thanks. Any nose shape would work as long as the crimp groove is in the right place.

Laser-Cast has one you might enjoy. They offer a gas checked 430gr with a Bhn of 24...X 1442* = nearly 35,000Psi yield strenth...ought to take you past 2300fps without leading.

Knowledge not shared is knowledge lost...

*the engineers have figured out a basic rule of thumb with regard to cast bullet alloys and speeds. The constant is 1442 times the Bhn (Brinnell hardness) as a pressure in Psi that will near-instantly obdurate (seal) the bullet
in the bore. The gas-tight seal prevents gasses from scoring the bullet and smearing chunks all along the barrel. It's why too hard a bullet can be worse than one too soft. One leads because it does not seal, and the other does not let the bullet lube keep from acting as a sort-of tinning agent. This is the gist of what I got from some phone conversations with Ed Harris of NRA and the Cast Bullet Assn...who does know about such things.

I'm looking for somthing like this with correct crimp groove location (see below). I have plenty of 45/70 cast bullets but when you seat them to proper lenght in my 458AR you either don't have a crimp groove or you have alot of exposed lube grooves that get all gumed up with crud over time.

at one time,Dan.C. was offering castings from lyman 462560,including an HP version..the standard worked fine in my 2 458's. with signicant diff.in thraoting on these calibers it's a guessing game sans a chamber casting..good luck, Idabull
