After weeks of casting, and testing and chronographing loads in my ex-mil clunkers, today I moved things to another test rifle; a Springfield 30.06 still with military action, trigger and barrel, but a sporting stock and a Nikko Stirling 3x9 scope. Not a heavy bench rifle or modern sporter by any means!

After hundreds of rounds, I had established that the most accurate cast bullet load was 32.5gns of 2206 and the Lyman 311284 gas checked bullet. I fired 4 x 10 shot groups today, two had 9 rounds under an inch and 7 under an inch, AND these two beauties Red Facenya:

8 rounds under 0.5MOA :boogie:

There is a lot of satisfaction knowing that I cast them sized them, loaded them and finally shot 2 x sub-MOA 10 shot groups with them Red Facenya:

Hold still varmint; while I plugs yer!
If'n I miss, our band of 45/70 brothers, will fill yer full of lead!

Looks great.....

Now the details..

Were you using the same alloy as with the 303's?

What lube were you using?

Were you using one of the M dies or simply the standard expander to size the case necks?

Figured I might as well ask since I have similar rifles sitting in the safe. They are all 03A3's but have been sporterized to some extent. My pop used them for hunting rifles and wanted them a bit prettier than most do nowadays.

If you haven't already, I suggest you also try the Lyman .308467/311467 (same bullet, but the name changed). My .311284 moulds throw bullets of about 220 grain's weight, while my .311467s drop them out at about 175 grains. The .311467 is also more pointy-nosed.

Anyway, the 311467 pushed by 17 to 19 grains of 4759 powder shoots that way from my Springfields, with almost no felt recoil.

Not suggesting it is better than your combo, just that it adds another arrow to the quiver...and is a GREAT 300 meter offhand iron-sight target load.

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

I have regretted selling my 311284 mold for 10 years. It shot great out of both my 30-06 and my 303.

Palidun, and the group.

good news! NOE is making the 311284 in single to five cavity molds, and offers the HP as an option.
Comes in two diameters, iirc, .311" and .314".
