I'm thinking about getting a diferent size cast bullet for the mosin, any one know what grain size bullet would be best for the 9.5 twist rate ? its the 7.62X54. I dont mean something that works good, I mean what size is optimum for the barrels twist.

There is more to this than just what size bullet. What is your bore size as they can be from .308-.316 and maybe larger. There are lots of cast bullets out there that work, but not in all Mosins. I use cast bullets from 75-214 gr in 18 different Mosins with varying success. The bore riders seem to work the best. Orygun

thanks, bore slugs at 312-313, I been using 312 sized to 311, I tried cast 312, same results, 155 grain, I'm thinking not enough of the bullet is riding the rifleing. And was sceered to go any larger on the diameter of the bullet because of reading in several places not to in a mosin because of the throat size. Thanks for the help.

Bulletman,
I would try a 314299, 311284, 311467 and 316475. The last one might be hard to find but if needed I can send you some to try. You need to size them at .314 or larger if possible. .001-.002 over bore seems to work good in mosins. You would need to make a dummy round and see if they would chamber. The only ones I really watch the size on are my Finns as they are tighter. Orygun
