I recently bought a 280 LFNGC mold from Veral Smith for a couple of 44 Mags I have and finaly got to shoot a deer with one of its' bullets. The bullets weigh 294 sized & lubed cast from wheel weights and water quenched. I loaded them over 21 grains of 4227 for good accuracy (~3" 5 shots at 100 yards)but have been too lazy to chrono them yet. A couple of fridays ago a small ,120 lb.,buck stepped out at ~20 yards and offered me a broadside shot. I was 25 feet up a tree so the angle was fairly severe. The bullet entered between the spine and shoulder blade, broke ribs going in and out, and exited the opposite shoulder blade. The deer dropped at the shot and expired quickly. The bullet didn't touch the spine but the animal acted like it had, paralyzed from that point back. All in all I'm pleased with this bullet and am itching to try it on something larger. I was able to eat right up to the hole and lost very little meat.

Congrats Lewis!!

I've got a .455 LFN 320gr LBT that I'm working with right now. What a beautiful mold and awesome bullet.

Working loads up with my Raging Bull 454 and Winchester 94 carbine. As yet I don't have an accurate load, but I'm waiting for the infrared option to hook up to my chrono so I can shoot on a cloudy day, and in the rain.

I can't wait to take a deer with that bullet. There's no way in heaven, a deer could walk away from this monster...

I wonder if that M94 carbine will stablize a bullet that heavy? I've been shooting a 310 gr. bullet (Lyman #457191) to about 1450 FPS and so far stabilty isn't too good. I was looking to duplicate the 45-60 in velocity, and using the rifle as a walkabout gun. I'm thinking the twist rate in the barrel is a bit too slow for bullets that heavy. Bullets up to 250 gr. shoot just fine though.

Not sure how the twist on the 94 differs from the Marlin but I shoot the big Lee and the 330 gr. LBT copy I make with super accuracy from the Marlin. Only thing I have found is that I have to reduce the powder charge one grain compared to my revolver loads. I get one ragged hole groups at 50 yds and can hit the plastic tops of spray cans all day at 100 yds. So much fun to shoot that I am always out of boolits.

The first shots with my Mod 94 and it has a little 16" barrel, has been grouping about 2"- 3" at 50.

But this was with one load I was using in the Bull. I think it may stabilize them fine with the right load, but will see.
