Hi all any thoughts on shooting a 150gn bullet out of a 35 whelen. Looking for about 2200fps with a 16.5" bbl. Maybe a casefull of IMR5010 or 30-40gns H4895? What about 700x, how much is safe to stuff in there? I should have a can of XMR5744? also.

I don't have a Whelen, but have been playing with the .358 Win this summer quite a bit. I don't know if these will help at all, but here are a few loads to consider. All are with the 200(233 gr.)Bator bullet. 3 gr. 4227 w/47.2 gr. WC872 3" 41 gr. 4895 1" 42 gr. 4895 2.5 44.5 gr. 4895 5" 45 gr. 4895 3" 41 gr. 3031 2.75" 39 gr. 3031 1950 fps .5" 5 gr. 3031 47 gr. WC872 1700fps 1" 5 gr. 3031 47.5 gr. WC860 1700fps 1.5" The 4895 loads are over 2000 fps, some over 2200. You may be able to use some of the above loads to start with, as you are using a lighter bullet. I suspect your rate of twist will be your determining factor for speed.

Lar45, I have shot 158gr pistol bullets out of my 350mag with IMR-4895. I don't remember the amount off hand but it was something like a starting load for a heavier bullet that I found listed. I think it might have been around 40 -45 gr. I didn't bother to chronograph or even shoot it for accuracy. I just shot at ice chunks in the Bering Sea to burn powder, relieve stress and practice holding steady shooting on my hind feet. It worked well enough and was not a real weenie load, there was some felt recoil. Maybe in the 243 range or something. Hope this helps. 350mag
