Guys: I'd like to start a thread for ideas on how to best navigate this new (to many of us) site. In my case, Shooter's CB and BP Boards were about the only ones of this type I used, and I am working at learning how to work Sayeed's fine presentation most efficiently with the limited time available. ANY ideas, corrections, alternatives are WELCOME! Here's what I have come up with as a starter, to avoid having to plow through multiple long threads each time I log in: 1. Bookmark this specific site as "Accurate-Cast", to save time getting to the site; bookmark other specific sites here if you use them often. 2. Set "Last 2 Days" in the access box at top right of the Topics page (or whatever interval between visits). 3. When you log out, note down the DATE and TIME (Dubai time) of the most recent post you looked at (usually, the last post on the most recently active thread; the one at the top of the "Topics" list). I keep a notepad handy for this. 4. Next time you log in, select the "Last X Days" entry that covers the time since you last visited the site. 5. Check the "Topics" list; scroll down until you see a thread with the date and time (to the right) of the most recent post AFTER the date/time you noted down last time. Scroll down that thread until you get to familiar territory (your last visit) and read on down. 6. Use the "next" button at top or bottom right to go to the next, more recent topic, and repeat until you get to "No More Topics". This will bring you up to date on what's gone on since your last visit. There is probably a MUCH better way, so lf you've found one, share it with us. floodgate [ 08-27-2003, 20:44: Message edited by: floodgate ]

I think there is. Why don't we all just post on one topic, this one for instance. You posted your navigation aid; I just made this suggestion; then Buckshot or whatever he calls himself comes in and gives a 'Tuesday at the Range" report; followed by FortyFour asking him what was his nose diameter or something equally interesting; followed by Carpetman giving a dead cat report; followed by Felix reporting on the 'Mother of All Lubes Cookoff"; followed by some one else asking if they can buy into it at this late date; followed by someone whining about California even though they don't live here and have to put up with it; followed by Jethrow or Waksupi or whoever talking about whatever they want to. Verstante? This would not preclude any of us posting on another thread or anyone else posting on ours. New faces (?) welcome. At Shooters we had ONE THREAD! There were subheadings but Cast Bullets was the name of our thread. So whynot start a thread here labeled "Shooter's Castaways" or somesuch and we all post on it everyday and keep it alive, day after day. Otherwise we are going to loose touch with each other and forget what made our group at Shooters so special.

This is a case of a non paying guest complaining about the accomodations--but I don't like this format.

Scrounger, 'K, but I'm done bitchin' about CA.....I'm out of words to describe this recall.....I'd much rather talk about Buckshot's nose.... Regards....

See what I mean? This plate of Hobo's Stew is better than a bowl of any one subject. What we had, and can have here, is a salad bar (gads, is it lunchtime yet?) where you look over the table and help yourself to whatever looks interesting. And Bitsandwedges, get ready for the Terminator. And not a g--d----d thing will change! Carpetman, don't you have a cat to cook? I tried emailing your pal FortyFour but his email box is full and not accepting new letters. I think Buckshot might have some way to contact him. Not my problem, you'll just have to find someone else to pick on. There's a guy here named "Catwhisperer". You guys must have something in common.

maybe start a new thread on Monday or Sunday so we don't have to scroll down so far? I do like the topic selection here, so I can go to the most interesting ones first.

I personally don't see a lot of problems if any with this format. To me complaining about it would be equal to me complaining to the Drug Reps, who's free lunch I just ate, that they didn't have the right cookies. I just had roast beef, mashed taters, ceasar salad, diet pepsi, bread and cookies. Didn't cost me anything except to walk down the hall and load up a plate. Working in the office doing work on the PC paid off for me today. Orygun

The bottom line is..... * All threads go to the top once the have been replied to. * You can change your view (number of days) under the "my profile" button at the top. * You DO NOT have to log out and in everytime you come here. (just open the window or close it, you will start out logged in) * Threads with new responses WILL have the yellow box intead of a white box. This site is VERY easy to use if you pay attention and give it a chance. The only really handy feature that is does not have is the ability to track threads (via email notification) that you have posted to or want to follow. Give it a few days guys, ya just got here.... Any questions, post here and i will try to help! [ 08-28-2003, 01:46: Message edited by: MSSmagnum ]

I have no problem with the site, I've found many interesting topics to explore here. But that does not preclude all of us dropping in on one topic every day to say 'Hello' and compare notes. What's wrong with me? I'm not usually this civil and social. Got to go find my hermit like personality and meditate awhile.

Scrounger, very thoughtful insight imho! You do great honor to yer 'handle'. I'm all for it should it not be offensive to our generous new hosts. ....but, I fear you may be a little too advanced for both the 'refugees' and their 'raft'. ---Saludos de kid jethrow---

scrounger The problem with your suggestion is that, on shooters, the header at the top of each post let the reader know what it was about without reading the entire post......here, if everyone posted multiple topics on the same thread...... you would have to read every post to see if it contained anything you were interested in.....from your example.....I enjoy reading Buckshot's range reports but I don't care one bit about a "dead cat report or whining about CA"...if we did as you suggest, I'd have to wade through all the stuff I don't want to read just to make sure I didn't miss anything I did want to read! I didn't follow every thread at shooters because many of the discussions didn't interest me...with the format here, I can keep up with the subjects that I want to read without sorting through all the others.

GonHuntin, et al. You COULD use a "sub-thread" title under your name at the top of the post; but that gets pretty complicated. I'm getting the feel of this Board now, and I really LIKE it (though I do sometimes miss the chronological option and the ability to reverse the time sequence). But it's great to be back among friends! Sayeed, many thanks, and good hunting! floodgatefloodgate

True enough, GoneHuntin, and probably everyone of us did it the very same way. I know some of the topics bored me to tears, and some people were not reticient in letting me know what they thought about some of my posts. I like a more eclectic mix than some, I guess. That's why I made the 'salad bar' reference. Bottom line, this is what we got and we will get used to it. I do hope Carpetman, HorseFly, and the MadMexican do drop in often on all the forums, just to remind folks that this IS the toy room, not the Holy Grail.
