45Nut, saw from your Aimoo(ostrich related?)single action post that you wus a "fan" of the above, with cast boolits presumably. How have your rifles compared for accuracy? Pet loads?

Got a couple myself, the 1917 really outshoots the P14, even though it's got the typical quick sporter treatment(barrel cut down to 22" and stock chopped at the lower band).

Thanks agin, for you webmeister efforts. Yeah, the herd needs thinin out. But, you might jus let nature take it's course for a few days first. Reality often turns out a bit different than pre-cogitation. ---galena, the younger

Galena Kid,
I am a fan of those rifles, actually a big fan.
I have an all original P-14 and a sporterized model 1917 like your own as well as others in non-mil calibers like 35 Whelen and 416 Rem mag and on up the chain to the 500A2. While I haven't done any serious bench testing with the 303 or the 30-06 I can attest to the plain and simple built in accuracy of the -17. Mine wears a redfield peep and the first time I brought it out to the range I wasn't expecting much, but it was as if that rifle was an extension of my being. Every last thing I pointed that muzzle at was summarily dismissed into dust and shreds.
Next year I will bring that rifle out to NCBS in hopes of gaining another golden wheelweight.
You have a fine rifle and one to be proud of,the role they played in the "war to end all wars" was admirable and distinctive. I never hesitate to aquire another. You can view a few of mine at the chevyken link below. 45nut

My first '17 was an Eddystone, later chambered in 308 Norma Mag. Did woodchucks in at 125 yards with original sights. Now have a Winchester '17 haven't had it but 5 years - just about it's turn to get zeroed in.

Great machines! Heavy (stable), accurate.

I have a winchester P-17 that was one of the British War Reserves, so I'll be leaveing that one in stock configuaration. I put together a 30-378 on a P-17 and it was easy to get sub 1" groups with it.

I have a 500 Jeffrey that was built on a P-14, and used to have a 458 lott, though I don't recall if it was a 14 or a 17. The lott was suprsingly accurate with iron sights, and the 500 looks to have promise as well, though I need to put a real stock on it before I do any more load work.
