Midwest Cast Shoot?

The guys on the west coast and the guys on the east coast have a yearly shoot. We here in the midwest have plenty of shooters and plenty of cast bullets. What's your input on a get together here in the "heartland"? Even though i'm retired and have plenty of time, I had back surgury about two years ago and can't sit in a car more than three or four hours, so I can't make the east or west coast shoots. I know some of the other casters can't make the other shoots for various reasons. How about some thoughts from everyone.

Ed, thats a great idea. Only been casting for the past few years but would be more than willing to travel in the region to pop a few caps. St. Joe is just across the street from St. Louis. Why don't we try to get the BR club in KC to host. Bill.

I was thinking about hosting a get-together when it warms up. I live about 1 hour upriver from St Louis, and have a 184 yard range in my front yard. Also have plenty of space for people to camp out should they be so inclined. I was going to do it as a general AR get-together but if there is interest I'd be happy to do a cast bullet focused one as well.

Good idea. I've been shooting BR with Pioneer Gunclub during the summer months. www.pioneergunclub.org/ I'm the only shooter using cast bullet. They're a pretty competitive bunch. My old Mod 70 usually places me at the back of the pack. 100 yards ain't bad, but when the wind picks up for the 200 yard event, I'm generally in for a butt whoopin'.

If anyone else would be interested in shooting at Pioneer, I could work on them to start a CB division. Currently they only have Factory Varmint & Wolf, which is the unlimited class. You don't have to be a member to shoot the scheduled matches such as the bench rest. They charge $10 entry fee to shoot. Lunch is provided. The top three shooters split a small cash prize, about enough to pay back your $10 entry. Last year, Hodgdon gave a pound of Varget to each competitor at the end of the season.

Or not. Pioneer just happens to be the club I'm familiar with.

We could have it here: http://www.conservation.state.mo.us/cgi-bin/atlas/search.cgi?cgistate=1&area=7912

This is Rocky Forks CA. It is just a couple of miles north of Columbia, MO. There is a decent range there and places to camp. I went to an AR-15 shoot there that the guys on AR15.com organized. It worked out pretty well.

Would Tulsa OK be out of the question? Everybody could bring every raw WW and other crap lead that can be found in MO down with them. We can all have a big MOAS meltdown party as well as do so shooting at a first class million dollar range where Sundog is the pres and super honcho. Besides, his back yard is large enough to shoot and camp as well, provided he will allow that. ... felix

All the places mentioned so far would be good. I was thinking of a multi format type shoot with of hand, position, and benchrest, plus any other ideas. Keep up the dialog, and we well chew on this piece of meat until we get it down.

Those of us associated with the Nevada Cast Bullet Shoots have been kicking the subject around for years.

There are literally hundreds of posts on the subject in the Shooters Archives, starting around post #9000 (January 2000) and moving forward to the present day.

Anything referring to "Topaz" usually concerns the first Nevada Shoot.

Lostcajun saved these archives for us at:

http://urugami.homelinux.net/shooterscaps/index.htm

and the cast Bullet Board is the one you want, of course. There are lots of good ideas there, and folks reactions to various happenings are there too....plus ELEVEN THOUSAND cast bullet topics of all descriptions!

If you do decide to hold such a shoot, keep it light and fun...you won't regret it!

Regards from BruceB (aka Bren Mk1)

I live in south east Iowa, and any of the Missouri locations would be good for me. I am just getting into cast bullets, and would love to learn more from experienced shooters.

Ed, Mark, Felix and others, Been away from the puter for awhile and took a few seconds to log in this evening. I found Ed's post and think this is a great idea! I live in St. Charles Missouri and can travel some. The only commitments I have coming are in the early spring / summer. If we could set this thing up it would really give us something to look forward too and make the cold months fly a little faster.
