I am going to order a custom bullet mold for my 93 marlin in 32-40 but do not know much about the effects of rifling twist Vs bullet size for different applications. I have been using the old standard 170gr FP bullet and getting pretty decent accuracy but was leaning toward a heavier bullet - say in the 180-200 range in hopes of improving accuracy and better down range performance. My rifle has been lined with 1-16" twist rifling. Can anybody enlighten me on this subject? Thanks

For long range accuracy you are at the limit with your flat nose boolit as is. Going to a 200 grainer would limit your range to something like 100-150 yards with deer hunting accuracy. For short range target accuracy in all kinds of weather, stay with what you have. ... felix

Charlie....I agree with felix. You're right at the upper limit with a 170 grain bullet. Petey had a 32-40 with a 1-16 twist and his 200s were tippping at 100 yards. In my Marlin, they shot all right but I wouldn't go any heavier. I'm also shooting a 188 grainer which seems to shoot all right. You might get by with it but I'd try some first and see if they worked before I invested in a mould./beagle

Thanks Guys - These boards are great for information - especially with a cartridge like the 32-40 with very limited information and very few folks out there actually shooting it. I'll give some a try before I get a mold. But it sounds like I should try some lighter bullets and see what happens. Thanks West Creek
