Does anyone have a cast bullet load for the .375 that will give around 2000fps with the lyman 375449 bullet. I want to try something besides pistol powders. thanks, Lucio the nut behind the butt makes the difference

I've got some for 335gr - what's the weight on your 375449 bullet?

I have the RCBS version of your bullet. I used 49.0 gr. of IMR-4895, a one grain tuft of either dacron or kapok and the bullet seated to just kiss the rifling. Groups average 1.5" when I do my part. Rifle is a Ruger #1 Tropical. Recoil is in the vicinity of a stout 30-06 load with 220 gr. bullets. I never chronographed the load, but I'd estimate 1900 to 2000 FPS. Paul B.

Richard Lee's manual covers cast loads in more detail and suggests choosing a powder based on the hardness of the bullet, burn rate of the powder and pressure produced. I suggest you get a copy.

I use to have a 375449 mold, but I sold it because it was so similar to the RCBS 375-250 that I liked better. My RCBS bullets weigh 265gr. checked & lubed. 50gr IMR4064, WLR primer, 1975fps, 1.5" 3 shots 50gr Varget, WLR primer, 1950fps, 1.5" 3 shots I tested loads with IMR4064 all the way to 58gr. That load was 2210fps and 1.75" for 3 shots. I tested with and without a tuft of dacron. The groups with the dacron were about twice as large as those without. Above 55gr of 4064, magnum primers reduced group size over standard primers. I didn't try the mag primers on the slower loads. I've standardized on the two 50gr loads depending on wich powder I have on hand. A couple hundred fps doesn't improve trajectory much and doesn't impress deer more than the slower load. Ooops, I forgot to mention, all bullets are water quenched wheelweight, 2% tin, 50/50 alox lube. Mark Pursell
