Have any of you ever tried hollow pointing solid boolits by drilling a hole in them such as with the Forster Universal Hollow Pointer?
I have the Forster case trimmer and thought by adding the HP attachment, I could make a more effective game boolit in my rifles. I would like to hear of any drawbacks, if any, before purchasing one. Thanks-- JDL

JDL--My experience is the same as Beagles. The Forster HP drill loads up with shavings and is rendered a PITA. I've found that a hollow point mould is a much easier way to go.--Shuz

JDL - My experience with Forster HP has been limited, but it has worked as advertised for me. One drawback is that it only works on loaded rounds, but you won't collapse the cavity when seating boolits. I had to make a longer base for my trimmer so it would work on '06 and 300 Savage ammo for initial tests. I went ahead and purchased the 50 BMG base for my trimmer after shooting a few. The 1/8 inch drill was the most effective and easiest to use.
I don't know what sort of game your after, but the HP have been very destructive on varmints for me.
I use hollow points in my 35's and 416's. After bullets are seated I chuck them in lathe and bore a hole. You must clean chips every case but it's no big deal. They shoot just like unaltered ones.Mark

JDL, I don't suppose you have a nice .22cal mold, Or a 7mm mold you would trade for a complete hollowpointer set-up for your forster rig? I have both size drills, and the centering jig. My experiences pretty much echo the rest. It just isn't worth the time & trouble.>>>>>>>Bug.
