Okay, I have read that pewter is a corrosive metal when compared to lead and would offer no real benefit, and have seen references to casting bullets from pure tin as well, but it seems that tin would be much less dense but also would allow harder bullets? And ever since I read about the stuff I have wondered if it would be possible to cast bullets out of the material that makes up the new heavier-than-lead substitute for shotgunning? Obviously I feel we have a need for something other than copper and lead bullets! (anyone up for casting some 24k gold slugs?)

I do recall Zinc Bullets being sold as a remedy to lead dust in indoor ranges. It was in the late 1970's I believe, and remember them from, I think, "Zero Bullets". The ones I used were .38 Special wad cutters for Bulls eye shooting. Pretty hard they were. I can't remember how accurate they were but I do remember the one that got stuck in my K-38 barrel. Haven't used them since. If someone would want to cast them they should probably use a pot other than their regular lead casting pot as zinc is a contaminant to regular cast lead bullets. Presents the same contamination problem if the range scrap is used for casting.

I believe the stuff being mentioned here is bismuth. Don't know anybody who's cast bullets out of it.

Bismuth had a few teething troubles when it was brought out in shotguns, I think it was fragmentation. I'd be interested if anyone has more information. A (cheap) source for it would be good too.
