Have a Ruger No. 1 coming and hope to shoot lots of heavy cast in it. Anyone have a favorite mould for this one? There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Welcome to the exclusive 405 club. I've got two molds for my 405 a NEI 300 grainer and a 350 grainer I had made at Mountain Molds. Using, what I consider jacketed bullet loads, I like my 350 grainer. They are both gas checked, don't lead and seem to be fairly accurate. I'll qualify the accuracy statement because I don't find it much fun to shoot the 405 off the bench to develope much in the way of bench technique and the buckhorn sight doesn't allow for much precision. Shooting off hand at 100 yards using my 350 grainer I'll hit the steel gong, 8*8 inches, most every time, until I get tired. Jim: Thanks for the reply. What sort of nose design di you go for with the Mountain Mold? I've heard real good things about that fella. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Bill It's a flat point. With the short amount of bullet sticking out of the case, I had to get out to the proper diamter real fast. I wanted the bullet nose to engrave the rifling to center the bullet in the barrel. There's not much of the bullet that's not supported by the rifling. The bullet mold is a piece of art. Jim: Sounds like a fine bullet. Shot up some factory Hornady ammo this morning and really like the Tropical so far, but I sure want to run some cast through it. I'm thinking about ordering the NEI mold No. 225A, 350-grain GC hammernose. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Sounds like the bullet I'm using. Watching that bullet hit a steel gong out at 100 to 200 yards is awsome. Jim "Whensoever the General Government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force." --Thomas Jefferson
