I want to shoot cast out of my Kimber 7-08. Does the newest Lyman catalog list data for this? I haven't orrdered it yet, but I'm leaning toward the Saeco #281 145 FPGC. I'm going to shoot marmonts, coyotes and jack rabbits with it. Anyone have a pet load? Thanks.

Thanks for starting this thread. I have a Ruger #3 with an ocatgonal barrel in 7-08 & have never tried cast.

Looking forward to seeing what folks use.

Mike - are we the only TWO people on earth that want to use cast in 7-08?

Evidently we are my friend! I've had this little Kimber 84 in 7-08 for over a year and shoot it very little, although it does shoot great with Horn. 139 and Varget.
I've had a lot of luck with Lyman's 311291 in .308 with WW748 powder and thought the 7-08 would even be more pleasant to shoot. I kind of got side-tracked from this project and my reliable source for Saeco molds has dried up. I'm leaning toward Lyman's 287346 mold now. It looks a lot like the 311291 and I like the 135 weight. This should be great for marmonts (Ca. version of rockchucks!).
Maybe we'll jump start some interest in this. Take care.

The first link shows both 7 MM Lyman's the second the Lee. I was thinking the Lyman's had a "600" series 7 design along the lines of the 311644.

The 346 just FWIW is the oldest design and has the least to offer. Least bearing surface. Short nose via alignment. I know the Lee design shoots well.

It has been so long since I was serious about starting with cast in 7mm I had to look in my database of moulds. I guess I've got 3 moulds by RCBS 27-130 in 2 and 4 cavity and 28-168 in 2 cavity. Time to dig out the ones I've cast up a decade ago and start working up loads.

I would think starting from a 6.5x55 load would be a reasonable place to start.

Now you know there are three people shooting cast in the 7mm-08. I just put together a Savage for cast bullet silhouette shooting, and it works well. I'm using the RCBS 145 sil bullet lubed with 50-50. Best loads so far are 26.0 gr. Varget, 26.0 gr. IMR 4895, and 18.0gr. Nobel Sport Tu-2000. These are all 1500-1700 fps loads, quite mild. I have tried pushing it faster, and it holds together pretty well up to 1950 with Varget, but really prefers to be run slower. I guess I'll have to stick with the 30 cals and up for higher velocity shooting.

Ah, well, I wasn't going to admit it but I shoot cast in a 7-08. I use it for cast bullet silhouette also. I use the Saeco 071 and 28 gr. AA2495. Works good!

Well thanks for admitting you're a member of this seemingly secret society! I finally got around to ordering the Lyman 130 RN GC mold. If I can get it dialed in by then, I plan on taking it to Az. on a coyote hunt in mid Oct. I'm going to try 748 first. I've had the best luck with that in my cast .308s. Thanks

HI my name's Dean and I shoot cast in a 7-08.

the lyman 346 is a 311291 scaled down to 7mm, and it's the best lyman mould for the 7-08 that I've tried. My first mould was the 287448. The nose only mic'd .273 and the body cast .289 with WW's. I sold it to a guy with 7mm mauser, he needed the diameter and was willing to put up with the tiny nose.
I tried the 7mm silly wet design and loverins by begging for them at another board. They shot pretty well, but only with fillers, possibly because the bases were seated so deeply in the case.
The 346 has shot quite well for me without fillers, including very light loads without checks. I like 26 grains of IMR 4198 with water dropped wheel weights.

i've heard great things from another short throated 7-08 shooter about the 145 grain RCBS but I have yet to try it.

Out of the shadows and into the sun, I shoot cast in my McMillian 7mm08. The Saeco 71 with about 22.5 grains of AA2015BR cast in Linotype set out to jam the lands with NO filler should put you close to the Promised Land of Zen.

I see this is a older post but I shoot cast gc'ed bullets in my 788 Rem with 18 1/2" barrel. I have a Lee single cav 130grn that works well but also have the Saeco 145FN, Ly 135RN that seem too long for the neck or rifling on my gun. I just sent in my money for a group buy 7mm Lee soup can mold over at cast boolits that I hope will solve my plinking problems. I have another gun in 7mm so maybe both will be happy.

If you do not cast who makes these 7mm bullets?
