"F: Loading the 45/70 is not really like loading for the bottle-neck cround. It depends a lot on what it is you're going to use the round to do. (No kidding?, but I had to say it.) I load for long range accuracy. Lots of other fellows load for hunting or general informal shooting. As is usual in such a diverse world there are lots of answers. It is the question, the utilization of the rifle if you will, that makes the difference in what you feed it."


Per usual Forrest you've about nailed it. My remarks were to partial sizing the brass to avoid the bulge at the neck which doens't shooten so well. How's about starting out detailing how you load for LR-- regarding brass prep and how you seat the bullet to find your OAL. Other than OAL's and maybe a crimp methinks it applies well to all 45/70's.

Got some data to post for you soon. 4759 ES's and results of nose sizing those slugs to fit the Buff...
