I'm about to order some surplus powder and would like yuse guys recomendations on which one.

I'm looking specificly for 30-06 200+ grains of lb.
8mm 220+ grains of lb.

These won't exceed 2000fps, all I need is 1" or less at 100 and a perfectly clean bore. Dang that would be nice!

Is it eveb close to possible?

Mike

I'm using quite a bit of WC852(F) for your velocity range in a .358 Win. Clean burn with a heavy bullet, and magnum primers. This bulks to a nearly full case. The WC852(PD) is a bit slower, and may be good for the slightly larger cases your interested in. Check with the Castpics site, there is surplus powder info buried in there, or check with Buckshot on the Aimoo cast boolit board. He's played with a lot of different burn rates.

Soundman, I think you'd get decent accuracy results with those heavy bullets at ~2000 FPS with near-capacity loads of 7383, but it'll be very sooty. My bores (with jacketed bullets) look black after shooting the stuff, and the first pass through the bore with a patch drips gunk out the muzzle that looks like driveway topping. No unburned powder, though, with full loads. I plan to use this stuff with aladin's new bullet in .30-06; I'll let y'all know how I make out. 4895's still available surplus fairly reasonably, and the surplus stuff usually seems a bit slower than current production. Ought to work well in moderate loads with those bullets.

Surplus powders when old are always slower than they were when new. But, that means diddly crap, because you don't ever know which lot of it you have when your flavor arrives at the door. You can only assume ball park speeds when making a reference to a published powder number. Always assume a faster powder than what you THINK you ordered. About 20 percent's worth, like 26 grains of old versus 30 or new in a 30-30 case. ... felix

IMR 7383 will work, but it works much better with jacketed bullets and data for starting charges of IMR 4350. However, if you don't mind unburned powder in the bbl., try WC 860 (with mag. primers) in your '06 because it seems to tolerate heavy bullets very well. ...Maven
