I have a few different molds for my .45-70 rifles.
RCBS 300grs FN-GC (excellent)
Lyman 330grs Gould HP (very good)
Saeco 375grs semi spitzer (good, as well)
Lyman 475grs Snover GC ( to this time, I haven´t found the best load Roll Eyes)

Next time, I will buy the RCBS 405grs FN-GC for my M86.
I bought finished 535grs Postell bullets for my Sharps rifle, with good results at the range and smokeless propelant. So I´m thinking about a new heavy bullet mold without gas check.
What should I buy, the Lyman Postell, the Saeco 500grs or 530grs semi spitzer, or the RCBS 500grs BPS or 530grs RN. I saw same heavy bullet molds from Hoch, the 550grs creedmore looks good, but the prices are to high.
Or are this bullets too heavy for the .45-70.

Thanks,
Martin

NEI is now offering moulds with Meehanite blocks. $150 for single cavity plus $12 shipping.

I just ordered one a few days ago for my 10 gauge Paradox double SS.

Big Bore, Reading between the lines, I assume you are using smokeless powder in your 45-70. You may want to contact either Paul Jones Moulds, Or Steve Brooks moulds and get the best. They both make superior moulds in the 540 grain range and they can be made to work with smokeless if you don't us the best powder-- black powder! Mori

Paul Jones and Steve Brooks making the same good bullet moulds , like Hoch. But the prices are for me too high, with prices over 200.-€.
And "yes", Im only using smokless powder. Here in Germany the most shooting ranges are indoor and not allowed to use black powder. The next is, you get NC-powder "easier", as BP. In Germany BP is classified as high explosive material.
But I mean, I found my heavy mould, the Saeco 2-cavity 525grs semi point.
And I´m thinking to buy the 350grs FNGC from Saeco for my M86, as alternative to the .405grs RCBS FNGC.

I use the 350 grain Saeco in my 1886 with excellent results.
When you go looking for another mold have a look at Mountain molds. They give you the option of designing your owd mold. I designed a 350 grain bullet for my 95 Winchester in 405 caliber and a 208 grain mold for my 30-06 Winchester 95.

Check out Buffalo Arms Co. moulds. I got one for my 38-55 and it's very nice. Bullets are round and right on size. Much better than Lyman's.

I think the 405 RCBS GC mold will make you happier than the Saeco. It was highly recommended by the owner of Bullshop Bullets.

Before you good to far in to buying molds you need to know what size your bore and groove dimensions are. From that you can determine what size bullet you need.
With Brooks or Jones you can get the mold adjusted to fit your rifle using the alloy you want to use.
I am sure you could find some one to hand carry the mold to Germany. Know what I mean?

I don't know if you read BPCR.net or CastBoolits.
There are some real BP pinheads there so don't tell them about the smokeless but ask about bullets.
Sagebrush Outfitters sells some of the bullets ready cast.
Sorry I did not call you when I was in Stuttgart.

At the moment I´m thinking about, to buy both, the RCBS 405grs and the 350grs Saeco. Big Grin

At Midway I bought same Postells from Montana precision swaging with good results.

No problem.

No one mentioned the Ranch Dog .460 moulds for the 45-70..........Is there a reason for this omission?
