Anybody know if this bullet will feed through a Marlin 1895? I called SAECO and they couldn't give me the dimensions. anyone know the distance from crimping groove to bullet nose?

I'm looking for a bullet in this weight range (465 -500) that will still feed through the lever action.

Thanks,

Mike

z1r....I have a #018 and it feeds all right so I'd say the #019 will as well as it has more lube grooves at the base.

I've had no trouble with feeding of any of the big .45s except the 462560 in the Marlin. The 45-500-FN will feed and shoots well as does the Lyman 457125.

Problem is in order to maintain the OAL for feeding, you have to seat them deep and run out of powder space so velocity suffers.

I know this is not answering your original question but some comments that may help.

I personally prefer a 400 grainer in the Marlin. The 45-405-FN is good and Lyman's 457463 is as good as they come if you want something a tad heavier./beagle

Z1R & Beagle-

I also have the Saeco #018 (405gr RNFP) bullet and if crimped at the crimp groove - It can indeed be loaded through the load gate and cycle into the chamber - bolt closes no problem.

All will work just fine as long as you pull the trigger and it goes bang! However - there is a bit of a problem if you need to eject a loaded round. In that case - the loaded round is too long to clear the ejection port. I thought I remembered that there was some problem and just now took a dummy round with that bullet back to try thru the gun. Thought I had remembered wrong until I went to eject & re-learned about this.

Best regards-

Sky C.

Thanks for the replies. I think I've decided to get an NEI mold instead. Their #346 is a 440 gr GC with a big wide flat nose. The nose is also short enough to function through the 1895.

The guy I talked to suggested I get the two cavity mold and for only $15 extra they'll cut a different cavity. Two molds in one. Can't beat that. Now, I'm trying to decide between their #333, #335, and #337. These are GC that run between 300-350 grains. Perfect for cowboy silhouette.

z1r -

I use that NEI 440GC in my marlin and it feeds fine. One helluva flat point on that sucker! Gives the LBT WFN a run for the money.

Thanks for the confirmation HarryCallahan! As soon as I saw that one I knew it was the right one.

One of those other lighter designs I listed is similar. Very wide nose but about 100 grains lighter. I'm thinking a mold with thse two cavaties will be the ticket. One for silhouette one for pigs and such.
