More examples?

It used to be a straightforward matter to keep track of trolls who employ multiple personae at a single IP address.

It also used to be possible to search over on Gunsmithing and find out when the original estimated delivery date was for my M1999 LH long actions. Not that I have a huge budget for shooting up 458 Lott ammo any more. One can keep track of how angry he might be without actually being angry.

Okay, I'll shut up.

Henry,

I agree with the sentiment of your post. Looking at this thread and others, perhaps the sentiment should be, too bad this place isn't the old shooters cast bullet board. Unfortunately, it isn't the type of software that is used, it is those who choose to participate that makes the success or failure of a forum.

I've been active on various shooting/hunting forums for nearly 10 years now, and have used many different types of software. The forums have a tendancy to ebb and flow, just the way it is. When one spot goes off line, most of the folks go somewhere else, but it is never the same as the old place. I still fondly remember the old Alloutdoors Coffeeshop. Thats where I met Jumptramp, and his postings back then were some of the most enjoyable and humorous I've ever seen.

One thing is for sure though, whenever a "moderator" uses a heavy hand, it has always killed a forum. I've seen it happen at the old Coffeeshop, HuntAmerica and Greybeards. Despite the desire of some to have me "provide some direction" here, I will not. I will occasionally delete a duplicate thread, but thats it.

I look at myself as a fellow caster and shooter, no less, no more. More often than not I'm the one doing the learning, I'll provide some input if I can.

I've been quite busy with work, and building a boat in my spare time, so haven't been able to keep up with the posts here.

As to the posts going poof after two months, me thinks you should try the settings at the bottom of the page. When I changed to setting to show all threads, I went back to August of 2002. When I did a search for gas checks, I went back to June of 2002.

I also agree that there are too many forums, but don't know what the magic number or forums are, nor which are worthy to exist or go poof. Since it isn't my web site, I don't get to choose anyhow. Who knows, maybe some of those forums will provide new homes for other groups when their current location goes poof?

This used to be like a very, very good reloading, gunsmithing, and hunting site. It used to be, I could search back a year or more and find something someone had already posted. Now, if it's a month old, poof! Gone forever. The person who knew the answer to my question is also gone forever, or may not show up in the next week while the topic is fresh, so there is less to be gained in asking anything. I know disk space costs something, and I don't mean to tell Saeed how to spend his money. I'm just saying these forums are less useful and less interesting than before.
