Martin The results of my trials with the French powder Tubal 2000 for reloads of the .416 Rigby with cast 350 grain bullets from the RCBS mould (Norma brass, CCI 200 primers, Dacron filler) are: 45,5 grains = 1800 fps, 50 grains = 2000 fps. No apparent pressure problems, burns clean, no leading. I plan to shoot these a lot.

Wink; Did some digging, found a burning rate chart from when I was still living in Europe. 5744 sits between IMR 4227/Tubal no:1 and IMR 4198/Tubal no:2 It seems the same or close to Rottweil R901 and Norma 200. Accurate Arms gave me a load for XMR 4350 /350 gr bullet/48 to 53 grain. XMR 4350 is close to Rottwiel R904 /Norma 204 (Fast) and Tubal No:7 (slower) Ross Seyfried (rifle Magazine): 350 gr bullet /44 gr IMR 4198 /12 gr Dracon (poliester Teddy bear stuffing) /Std primers Vel 1700 Ft/sec. Bullet material: hardened Wheel weight is a second to Linotype, Linotype is the best. Hope this helps Martin

Martin Excellent research. I had started out trying to do the same thing and you have provided the useful information I need. I think using a single base powder (like the Tubals) will give a little more flexibility than the double based powders. In my experience the double based powders seem to like a narrower range (charge weights/operating pressures) for consistancy. What's your experience?
