Let me say first that I have an older M25 in 45LC with 8 3/8 barrel with .456-.457 throats. I shoot the RCBS 255 SWC cast over 9 grs of Unique. It shoots into an inch at 50 if you can hold it steady with issue sights. I size my boolits to .452 so apparently something is happening right with my particular revolver and loads. Now...I've been told and have read that the Smith M25 is not a gun to hotrod, that it should be fired with Colt pressure ranges loads and never with some of the loads recommended for Rugers. The cylinder walls aren't very thick on this particular gun especially over the cylinder notches. I wish that ClarkM was around to do a pressure test on the M25 Smith in 45LC. I think your 1100 fps load is getting a little warmist for the Smith. Someone in the forum posted loads for the 45LC using 255 gr boolits and heavier over 20 of 4227....DON"T DO IT in a Colt or Smith. In a Ruger yes it's ok. Joe

Sean...I agree with starmetal. That's a little too racy for the Model 25 that I had. I'm a little leery of hotrodding Smiths....Rugers...that's another matter. I'd say you will be able to get 1100 FPS with a 265 grainer for a while but the gun will sure take a beating. If you are able to attain this velocity with a 14 BHN bullet and the chamber mouths are oversize, I'm betting on a goodly amount of leading which will accumulate quickly and detteriorat accuracy just as quick. Ta attain that velocity, you'll have to use a fairly slow powder which will eliminate most of the quick "bump" that you're trying to acheive and seal the chamber./beagle
