Hey Guys, I live in the greater Houston area and I am thinking about starting to cast my own bullets. I can totally watch YouTube video's to try to figure it out. But I was wondering if someone lived around the Houston area wouldn't mind next time they cast allowing me to come watch, help, ask questions and learn. I tend to like learning from people that have done it a bit and know what they are doing.

it's just liquid metal going into a hole. keep the lead in your pot around 700-725F and the mold needs to be hot.[375-425F] pour and empty the mold 3 or 4 times a minute, once everything is up to temperature, and keep that steady pace going till your back starts hurting. you have now learned the secret to casting good bullets.

Make sure you have NO liquid of any type around your molten lead.

You better believe it!!! One drop of water in your lead pot + it will explode! Never mistake motion for action.

A couple more bits of wisdom. Order a copy of: Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook. Get a lead thermometer and keep it in the pot to watch the temps. When it drops below 700, stop and let it heat up again. Set your next ingots on the rim of the pot to preheat so it won't blow up when you drop a cold one in the melt. While ordering; get a jar of Frankford Arsenal's Flux powder. It don't smoke like wax or other things. Wear gloves, that stuff gets HOT! when you do splash some on your skin; DO NOT JUMP, you'll just knock the pot over. Make damned sure you don't cast over the same area you've reloaded at. I dropped a hot sprue once and almost burned the house down. Instant flash, I didn't even have a chance to kick the bucket of water over on it! Good luck and have fun, Hope you have a pot and molds already.
