I ordered one of these yesterday and was wandering how well it should work in my 45-70. I'm planning for about 1700fps in my H&R 24" barrel. Also, Witch powder would anyone suggest? This will be used for deer and maybe on a hog hunt planned for next year.

It will shoot into 1" @ 50 yd. from my Marlin 336. I sized it to .459" and seated it to 2.55" OAL. The load was 13gr. of Unique. ...Maven

I tried Witch powder for a propellant once but it turned everything I shot into a newt. I changed to Warlock powder and it just flat kills stuff without any needless dramatics.

You ain't gonna get 1700 fps with accuracy out of a recent H&R barrel with a plain base bullet. 1400 fps seems to be the practical limit.

That suggested 13 grain Unique load should be excellent. 12 and 12.5 cut ragged holes at 50 yards under cast 405 bullets from my NEFs.
