This is my first attempt at posting an image so hang on....

Customer sent me this pic. No, it's not one of my bullets. Veral's. 165 gr. 30-06 at 2670fps.

I have just begun to play around with hi-vel CBs. Getting groups, not patterns, but nothing this good. -- mountaingun (formerly MTNGUN)

[Eek!]

That is IMPRESSIVE!! [Big Grin]

I have never tried any cast at seriously high velocity as leading was always an issue. Will the gas check completely eliminate the leading problem??

Leading .... yes and no. I have been playing with similar loads in my M700 '06, and after firing 30 or so CBs at 2600fps +, the barrel appears perfectly clean when viewed from the breach end. None of the flakes or streaks of lead like I sometimes see in revolvers. But when viewed from the muzzle, the bore appears to be coated with a grey mist, apparently a mixture of lube and vaporized lead. Whatever it is, it cleans out easily.

So far I have tried Felix lube and Alox. Will soon try LBT Blue, which is what the gentleman who fired the group in the picture is using.

I shoot the 95 grain RCBS gas checked 6mm bullet in my .243 above that speed. I use FWBL(For those not from Shooters, that's Felix World Famous Bullet Lube. No leading problem.

Carpetman, what powder did you use and what kind of accuracy did you get?

If that group was fired at 100 yards (or longer), I'd surely like to know the particulars of the load!

In Verals book, he talks about shooting at 3000fps without lube. I have not done over 2450 in my 260 Rem Rifle and my 6.5X356Win TC Encore Pistol, haven't really tried to push it at all. It's the fit of the bullet, quality of the lube and the alloy more than the gas check that prevents lead. Properly fit, pure can do 1400 and not lead.
Now that I think of it, I have never had to fight leading in my front stuffer with maxi balls.
